  • From the looks of things this will probably be a sunrise ride from night to dawn!

Humm, that's what i was thinking.

    Tentative plan would be

    5:00 Tooting Broadway

    South circular

    Kew

    Ealing Broadway

    Uxbridge

    Iver

    Cookham

    Marlow

    Wattlington

    Oxford

    ... Run (35 minutes)

    ... Turf Tavern (4.6 hours)

    ... John Radcliffe A & E (priceless)

  • For the P*******s potential, I'd leave at 4...

H, we are not drinking until we get to the Turf.

(A little harsh to call us p!ssheads, surely?)

  • 10k in 35 minutes!? After setting off at 4am to cycle to Oxford? I'm not sure I'm in the right company here...

    well you might not be...

  • you should just catch the sunrise if all goes to plan, sunrise in London on May 13th is 5:11 - the dawn chorus will be well over by the time I join you somewhere in the Chilterns

  • I meant, with such a great warm up I'm going for 30m. See you oldsters at the finish

Y'know, I quite like the sound of a dawn chorus roll out of town. Traffic would be pretty much non existent and it gets all that cycling nonsense out of the way for the main activity of the day.

Poots, you are so into the spirit (hic) of this event...

  • 5am at tooting! hmmmm. if there's a route I might meet you at kew or somewhere. it'll take me 75-90mins to ride down to tooting.

My idea is to catch people on the way, but no waiting. Will put up a fully worked route shortly. It will include at least one train station for those who want to ride half way.

  • 5am start? 10k run? All my favourite things...

I'm a masochist, so make that:

It would seem that our Oxford cousins are expecting a hoarde of Cockneys to desend upon them come May.

"cor, stone the crows mister, would you Adam and Eve it?"

So, as not to disappoint, the dress code is going to be

    Dick van Bike

With the girls hopefully attired as Mary Popins.

So, get practicing your rhyming slang, as well as your T2 transition technique, in advance of this charitable extravaganza.

  • i better start sewing pearly buttons on my lycra then..

  • OK folks, registration for the run opens today, have booked up, and tipped off the organisers about our plan.

    http://www.muscular-dystrophy.org

Look for Town and Gown, and then go down to the Oxford link, and not that "other" university that is getting in on the act.

The organisers seem really keen to highlight our efforts in riding down, and then running the race, and were very amused with the chimney sweep theme.

If you are registering, on line, for the very reasonable fee of £20, please mark the team name as LFGSS Chimney Sweeps.

More guff to follow in relation to route, but at present, keep peddling, and doing some short runs off the bike, to build up the ride/run transition muscles.

I am looking to source chimney sweep brushes, for anyone who is interested in something to waggle at the locals. May help in fending off the pitchforks...

  • I'm going to go for a run for the first time in 4 months this weekend - as long as it doesn't totally kill me then I'll register...

If I'm honest, it's the thought of fancy dress that's providing the motivation. I love fancy dress more than I probably should.

  • Still looking forward to this. Early morning starts are a personal favorite. However, I can't run for shit but don't mind keeping an eye on bikes, shouting encouragement etc etc.

Ride only for me I think, haven't run any distance at all since my accident last year, but we shall see. 4am starts and 100km in 5 hours are not a problem however.

  • @Bernie
I won't be registering as I won't be running, but I'd like to sponsor the LFGSS Chimney Sweeps team. Is there a link?

Good man Ian. Will get something sorted with regard to sponsorship

I will ask if we can do it directly to chartiy, rather than via Just Giving, which (understandably) charges a fee.
