Bernie, I recon we need to be in Oxford by ~9.30 if possible to get the runners there in time to get changed, put numbers on, check fancy dress outfits, whatever, and to the starting line (just outside The Parks) in time. It's 15 miles from Watlington to the center of Oxford, so about 50 mins to an hours ride?
The cafe in Watlington is called The Bread Bin I think.

Many thanks, Mister.
I keep promising to do the timing and route line for the ride from Saaf London to the dreaming spires, and will get cracking with the A to Z when Guinness # 6 is successfully concluded.

no problem.
Have fun on the Guinness #6 ride - sounds like a great combination - unfortunately, it's not practical for me to get into town for these rides.

FAME AT LAST
Oh, if you want an autograph, ask your people to ring my people, and hopefully we can do something for you.
"No, Paris, that simply does not go with the shoes...!"

Good point. Stood waiting for the photographer.
"Flat cap?" check
"Broom?" check.
"Lo Pro?" check.
Oh, ****, no soot! Thank heavens for smoky exhaust pipe on car, and ready for my close up.

and a bump for the justgiving link ...

How do I get on the JustGiving participants' list? I was going to send out a begging letter to friends/family/blackmailees but it looks a bit odd if I'm not on the list.

Send a PM to the delightful Hats, and I am sure she will oblige.
Hats, how is the elbow healing? Hope you are on the mend, and that you can make it out on the 13th May.

Bernie, this article is brilliant! I’m particularly loving the “brushing up” title.
I agree that we should be in Oxford half an hour before the race starts. I’m going to need time to drink a couple of Red Bulls and cover myself in ibuprofen gel. I dread to think what sort of time we’re going to have to leave London...

Ian, you’ve been added (though your name won’t appear until tomorrow morning as the site takes a while to refresh). If anyone else wants their name on there just drop me a line!

Elbow’s doing well, thank you – as long as I can stay injury-free for the next few weeks then I’ll be there on the 13th! Running isn’t going amazingly well, but there’s still time... kind of...

any good ideas on how to make a chimney sweeps' chimney sweep? I remember seeing a couple of riders on the last Tweed Run dressed as sweeps with rather natty brooms but cant find photo of them.

i bought a pair of running shoes over easter for a short jog with my daughters
around the hilly norf oxfordshire pathwaysi then remembered why i quit running after my fourth and final marathon in 2008 :(

I am going for a couple of drain rods, with 8 inch circular brush at the end. I am hoping our very own beloved Bearfoot, if not stuffing chickens, may be able to get us a bulk discount.

I had a half idea of making said circular broom with strips of black corex attached somehow to the end of a pole

Humm, you could, but if the brushes do indeed only cost £6, with a secure screw on fitting to the end of the drain rod, it might be the more secure and sensible way of proceeding.
Oh, and folks, at the risk of sounding like Bob Geldof, don't forget why we are doing this. I said to the paper we are hoping to raise £400, but with the extent of our effort, and the most deserving of cause, we must be able to raise at least £1,000 between the lot of us. Get tugging them heartstrings and purses, people.
"Give me ya fooking money!"

Bernie,
is it too late to sign up for the run?
-
• #144
According to the website there are a few places left - link is here: http://www.muscular-dystrophy.org/get_involved/fundraising_events/5041_oxford_town_and_gown_2012
Let me know if you want me to add your name to the JustGiving page!

is it too late to sign up for the run?
NEVER TOO LATE!
Even if you cannot run officially, I am sure the charity would be happy to have another cheeky chimney sweep in tow.
(Please also see sensible response from Hats...)

I need to know your real name (unless you're actually called almac68!). PM me and I'll get it sorted.
Yay, more runners! You'd better all be very slow runners. I'm going to be veeeeeery slow...

I'm taking my running shoes to Berlin now to get some practice in next to my research. It's been a while since I've run for running's sake but I always liked 10km as a distance. Still predicting a slow slow pace though.
My friends are all stingy, but I'm going to try another sponsorship drive shortly.
Still no idea about the costume though, what kind of shirt would a chimney sweep wear?
Glad to hear you're on the mend back on the bike Hats!

In terms of what type of shirt will a chimney sweep would wear, I think a torn and dirty one!
The main thing will be the sporting of a red cravat, to mop your brow when you stop and say to the crowd "Phew, stone the crows, Govn'or, that Mary Poppins is a lovely girl") in your best Dick van Dyke Cockney accent.
Remember to keep some energy for the end of race dance routine.

Whoops. hopefully FOB will have a good time on next Friday.
Yes, we are looking to be in Oxford a bit before the race, but it is very dependent on how the travel from south London works.
I know the centre of Wattlington, and a cafe we normally stop at on the way through to Oxford. Will give you the heads up on the one I am thinking of.
