  • OMG!!! That stem!

    /only joking :-)

  • Heh, first image I found that showed the wheels, it's been subject to an incredibly subtle photoshop to change the stem angle - I'm surprised you noticed.

    Was it the pixels?

  • I would dearly love those speed weapons

  • Give me some money on Saturday and take them home with you then.

  • I promised myself I wouldn't get into tubs. Must. Resist.

  • I'm going to doom myself here, but SO FAR my experience of tubs has been excellent.

I've compared Vittoria Open Corsa CX clinchers (on Open Pro) with Open Corsa Tubs (on my Chinese Carbon) and the ride was better on the tubs.

I put tubs on my Langster then used it to commute on- and punctured both front and rear tyres in the first week, which was the point in many ways.

Half a can of Pitstop, a bit of attention from my pump and away I went- didn't even have to take the wheel out of the frame, let alone the tyre off the wheel.

When out on the Cannondale I take a folded up Open Corsa that's pre-glued, one of these days I am sure that I will have to use it, but so far Pitstop has served me well.

Finally- for carbon wheels that you are going to use a rim brake on, I reckon tubs are the way forward.

How did you conduct the comparison?

  • Same ride, same bike, different wheels- I did my figure 8 loop outside Winchester.

At the same tyre pressure the tubs gave a nicer ride, basically.

  • Hah - consider yourself utterly jinxed.

Apparently - although I've never tried it but I'm seriously considering it - you can also use Stans Sealant if you don't mind carrying around a couple of extra grams in your tubs the whole time.

  • I'd try the Stans if I was running carbon clinchers tubeless, for now the PitStop has done really well, so I'll stick with that I reckon.

Of course, having jinxed myself I should probably buy a case of the stuff ASAP.

  • Out of curiosity, whats a steal for firecrests i wonder?

  • Ouch £801 and reserve still not reached !

    And I'm out.

Lets see if they get relisted.

    something around this.

    or were these stingers?

  • Those were Stingers.

    all of you, nerged

  • Tried a pair of 404 Firecrests in my frame today, plenty of room for them, and a chap on Weight Weenies confirmed that he runs 7970/EE/Firecrest and they perform very well.

    Boom!

  • Aaaaand back together (a week early), sorry for the crap picture:

Mountain climbing is on the agenda this year:

  • Looking good again :) I particularly like the aesthetics of the new bars on the build.

.. Just one thing (and maybe it's the pic) but the front mech looks a bit high?

  • Stronglite chainrings are a lot heavier than Cannondale's own - how come you chose them?

  • Liking the white saddle and bar tape.

  • I still reckon that Zipp stem would look great on there.

  • Oswald- I've not moved the front mech down, due to being inordinately lazy, so it's still in position for the old 53 big ring. I'll move it down.

Giant Dale- I've got 52/36 on there, which Cannondale don't (or didn't maybe) do.

I also use this crankset on my winter bike with a 46 instead of the 52, keeping the same 36 inner ring.

  • Lol .. Just thinking of the shift .. I know how you're always in the big ring though ;)

@GiantDale .. I haven't ever used the Cannondale's rings, but I have used the CT2's and they are very quiet, stiff and shift well. I don't know the numbers for weight ..

  • I've got the Pro version of the Rotundo on at the moment, and steel cables rather than kevlar, and it's 6.77kg, so I'm not that concerned about the chainring weight- it'll be under 6.7 when I swap the bars etc.

  • I've used both and find Cannondale's better in weight and looks departement. Also harder wearing. Didn't have any problems shifting with either. A crank like hollowgram only deserves best ;-)

  • Do they make 52/36 now?
