depending on what time we arrive I might ride back with you too. Girlfriend has the afternoon off work so I may need to be home by lunch-ish.

This is going to be a social ride, isn't it? I'm all for a brisk pace and no big fan of long breaks mid-ride ... but I don't think you can do London-Brighton fixed, in a group, in less than 4 hours - taking into account punctures, faff etc.
