  • Sorry I messed it up. JacobBurke. You do it!

  • oh! sorry. thank you.

  • so does anyone know the route it own a garmin thingy?
I've got a map but it's a very small scale

  • ffs...

    :)

I know the/a route. Although I wouldn't go along godstone road as I think it's shit. But I'm happy to follow if anyone has that specific route garminated - it's not my usual way out.

  • i'm going to try and do something with my iphone (which i don't have a simcard in but i'm told it will still work fine) i'm no tech geek but if someone has a garmin that would be much handier.

i'll keep trying to get it sorted though, if nothing else it'll be a back-up

  • I know the route, I have a Garmin for backup and I'll be on bauxhall bridge at 9.15.

  • done!

  • Not happy at all.....
Glad to be at number 1 though...... let's just see if I can wake up in time to get there.

    x

  • i have the course saved to my garmin, but have fuck all luck making courses on the garmin work

i hope to make the hyde park corner or vauxhall bridge meet up

  • do we need to bring a lock with us? It's just so heavy.

  • depends on what you plan doing on brighton

i hope to arrive, possibly grab fish and chips and jump on a train

    no need for lock

will be doing this in roadie kit, lycra, lightweight jacket etc definitely no bag or space for a lock

  • Cool

  • I would say bring a lock. I'm from Brighton and go there regularly. I laugh at the locks people get away with using down there (piece of string with a padlock from a cracker type affair), but then again they all have shitty looking mountain bikes in general. I would say bring a secondary lock if you intend to go for a pint (which I definitely do!)

  • Another list?

Still in, still planning to meet you at the bottom of Brixton Hill, still planning to go ss, and definitely not planning to drag a lock up Ditchling - I'll have my pint outside if needs be. Will try and add route to Garmin.

  • awwww, now i do love a list!
    lock list:—

    • ian (conker) still un-decided as to taking a lock. On the fiddy memorial ride i schlepped my v-heavy lock to the top of bitchling deacon, then we turned round straight back to Haywards Heath and found a pub with a garden! hmm, might bring light-weight lock
  • I'm cable locking the bike, worse comes to the worse we find a pub with a beer garden that we can load our bikes too.

Also know a few good fish and chip places as the seafront places are a bit meh from experience I quite like bankers now I quite like the idea of a few drinks and maybe an ice cream at hove gardens.

Ill be wearing jeans and padded seat.

  • Glad to hear you'll be there again in the morning lynx ;)

So it's 2:45am and I'm just back from work. Just time to unwind, re-adjust my breaks (again), pack my bag and get a few hours kip before a bleary eyed 7 miles through London rush hour to Hyde Park corner.

Sorry to hear you won't be with us Almac. Hope the family get better soon.

    • bobbycutters - Leaving the fahg at home but will bring another. Maybe the Abus chain.
  • I see it as being so excite about the ride I was premature.........it happens to everyone.

    • Jacob - i'm taking my low end kryptonite and one of them cables that comes with it. see you all in an hour
  • Oh, god, dithering over the lock now. It's only a mini-evo but it's an extra 3kg to haul up that f'ing hill and I've never done ditchling before. Sod it, I'll leave it behind but take an extra inner tube so if anybody has a blow-out and needs a spare then you'll owe me :-)

Have discovered that my bibtights are a bit, er, tight. Bloody xmas.

  • I WOKE UP!!!! HUZZAH!!

    See you in 45mins

  • So after setting out after only 2 hours sleep last night (due to working late, then my neighbors deciding to have a party) I found myself struggling against the wind and struggling to keep my eyes open. Thanks all for waiting as fixed my puncture. When back on the bike after only 2 minutes the wire bead on my rear gatorskin (that I've only owned for 6 cocking months) decided to rip out of the tire. Thanks again to Ian and Dan for offering to blat off to the bike shop to get me a new tire but at that point I figured enough was enough. Rather than make everyone wait in the cold for another 45-60 mins and then slow the group down for the rest of the ride as I tried to find some energy I decided to hop on a train home.

I hope the rest of your ride goes without mishap and Brighton treats you well. I intend to spend the rest of the day in bed watching films. I may even go and buy a fish supper to make me feel better about the one I'll miss.

Note to self - 2 hours is not enough sleep for a winter ride.

Also - do you reckon I can get my money back for this shit tire? I bought it from LMNH in June. Maybe I should contact Continental.

  • I hope the rest of your ride goes without mishap and Brighton treats you well.

If it's any consolation it was rainy and gloomy and there were headwinds, epic crosswinds, and I had three punctures in total thus obliterating my supply of spares and having to tackle Ditchling Beacon on a 70 PSI rear wheel that I was 80% sure was leaking air the whole way (it wasn't, the poor handling and heaviness of the bike seemed to have been due to my being spectacularly unfit). You wouldn't have enjoyed it. Continental did you a favour. (Don't read this next bit).

It was a great ride, with great company, really enjoyed it. Thanks to Jacob and to everybody who helped me out with those wretched punctures, my amnesia regarding how presta valves work, and batteries.

(ok, you can start reading again now) Conti apparently do a 1 year warranty on 'safety system' tyres, so if gatorskin is part of that range then you should maybe be able to get it replaced. Check their site: http://www.conti-tyres.co.uk/conticycle/SSGpage.shtml and with LMNH.

Great! I'm glad you all had a rubbish time then, and that there were no positive aspects to the whole experience! Clearly I missed nothing.

to be honest, the Beacon would have killed me today. It would kill me on a good day, but today it would have killed me dead. Conti did do me a favour I feel.

Hopefully catch you on the next one
