They're fucking shit Big Dave, that all you need to know.

On what measure, Ed?
I'm assuming the question is about Ultra Gatorskins.

• #5
mistook it for ultrasport.
as you were.

I've put about 5000 miles on my Ultra Gatorskins on my road bike. Best tire i've owned easily for that purpose. Mind you I wouldn't get them for a city bike. I'd get regular Gatorskins for that.
I don't understand why this forum is so opposed to those two tires. Fanastic tires.

I've been tempted by the nice balance of robustness, longevity, and weight, on the four seasons though.
Just a bit too expensive.

Ok,
So I guess the conti's are shite from what I'm seeing from your responses. Can anyone recommend me some good tyres which are better?
-
• #15
conti's.
-
• #16
I reckon Gatorskins either suit you or they don't.
They suit me, but then I don't feel the need to have a superlight folding tyre or a super heavy duty, heavy ass one.
-
• #17
gatorskins on the road bike, gatorskin hardshells on the track bike. Simple.

I've never tried them. But they do sound like the Ultimate marmite tyres.

Krylion carbon is the stock answer to that question.
I'd be tempted by the Schwalbe Ultremo ZX HD though. I have a few pairs of the ultremos which seem nice, and the HD version is aledgedly near identicle in ride, just with greater protection.

i like them, used them for years.
they also won this
i mean i've been biking for 25 years. I've tried at least 10 brands in various forms and always used them until they died. I don't decide that a tire is "crap" and retired it before it's truly dead. I've basically come to conclude that there's Continental Gatorskins and Ultra Race Gatorskins (or whatever they're called), and then there's every other tire. Never used any other contis. i've heard that the others from conti are not as well made. I know those two are handmade in germany. not sure what that really means.
I just know that they last forever and function as well as claimed.

Decided to go out on a limb and buy a pair of the conti's.
Put them on earlier today and went out on a maiden voyage via CS7 from Barking to Tower Hill. Later on tested them again from Hackney to Oxford circus. No problems so far. I'm liking these.
I already noticed the difference speed wise between these and the specialized nimbus tires that I had on the bike.

`you feel the weight difference rather, the nimbus are pretty strong but hefty.

Hey Guys,
I'm thinking of getting these tires just mainly for general cycling through London.
If anyone has them, what's your views on these? Are they worth it? If not, can you recommend something better.
