I think 'In the moment' is a fantastic album. I have the deluxe version on vinyl with the extra two sides. I listen to the digital version a lot on the bike too while I'm working.
BBC2 young jazz musician of the year 2022 final on now.
probably on iplayer too.
Eiko Ishibashi performance last night at King’s Place, York Way as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival.
Concert venue has superb acoustics. Very niche Japanese jazz, great use of background samples and loop pedals for the grand piano, and accompanying sax player .. Eclectic crowd, swarming with album covers seeking autographs afterwards.
Wasn't Brown Penny playing there too? Looking forward to hearing some music from them.
yes, same evening.. different hall
I'm going to see Myele Manzanza in Brick Lane tonight.
Would be great (lucky) to get him to sign his LPs that I own.
Not jealous at all.
Have a great evening.
Crisis opportunity vol 3 out tomorrow, not that I've been counting down the days or anything.
He was fucking great with Theo Parrish's band at the Barbican years ago!
Listening to the digital now while I wait for my vinyl version. 😁
Really enjoyed it, not quite as good as Peaks, but some very funky baselines going on.
First two tracks were the best for me I think.
Really confused by the last track though... The keys are from another track, but it sounded a bit like a bad DJ trying to mix two tracks together.
It was a great little gig in a packed small venue. Very chatty guy, with his own very punchy and physical drumming style. He was obviously very excited to be playing live his new album (which I picked up on the night).
Vol.3 sounds more dance/soul/borderline house music played by live instruments.
I did leave with 4 signed LPs (and a Ashley Henry 5ive bought for £10) so that was a good night.
The price of those drinks @ 91 though - not priceless.
He did play "Moonlight" last night as a nod to his time touring with Theo.
The Ashley Henry 5ive is one of my favourites!
Very much enjoyed the Ashley Henry 5ive, then listened to Lady Blackbird, fuckin hell, what a voice, may have to invest in the deluxe edition of Black Acid Soul.
If it's pressed in the same place as the normal version you might be disappointed.
..not to take away from her live performances which are spine tingling.
Further to that though, Nina Simone - Sings The Blues is available from Speakers Corner, at least it was recently and that is a pressing worth having.
I guess by pressing, you mean vinyl? Unfortunately I'm not that sophisticated.
My mistake, forgetting about digital versions! It's a great album but the first release on vinyl was pretty typical shoddy major label stuff. Not awful but 2nd tier.
