Your comment has just made me want to listen to Derek Bailey's Ballads album which doesn't seem to be on Qobuz.. I'm sure I've still got the CD in the garage.
I've always loved the records where a veteran does something more relaxed or out with their comfort zone. Money Jungle being the exemplar. -

I literally only just found out a couple of days ago that Kamasi Washingtons 'Heaven and earth' four vinyl album, which I've had for nearly four years has a secret, sealed into the sleeve fifth vinyl! 😂

Waaat. That’s cool.

It has one perforated edge that I never did, and never would have noticed. I had to split it with a knife, and inside is a 38min exclusive ep 😍

Saw live this week-end the Kansas Smitty's House Band and Xhosa Cole Quartet at Shoreham-by-Sea's New Generation of Jazz festival. I didn't know K.S. had also been running a bar in East London for many years - although not currently it seems.
Got my tickets for Gala (Thursday only) and REALLY cannot wait for that one [Nubya Garcia, Joe Armon-Jones, Sons Of Kemet. Even Goldie FFS...]

I've been listening to The Don Ellis Orchestra because these were a part of the music that was played in the house when I was a kid. Back then I thought it was among The World's Worst Music and omg why can't everyone listen to Slade? But I'm enjoying the Primula aesthetic of these:

This is good too. Dense and fairly difficult in places but rewarding

Crisis and opportunity vol 1 & 2 are amazing.

That'll be tomorrow night's listening.

Kokoroko also just announced their debut album...at last!
If it's anything like their self titled ep it should be great. -

I was hotly anticipating a rather fantastic vol.2 but was not bowled over by it (only listened to it once). I have though just ordered his 2019 LP after streaming it this afternoon and that's 101% "proper" jazz. I do love his vol.1 a lot and keep recommending it to as many people as I can.
just giving it a saturday morning whirl,
it’s an awesome recording not just for the music, bit breathy/reedy sound to the sax and the brightness/clarity to the piano.
Live recording without it’s drawbacks but not over produced ‘studio’ sounding. nice.
