What to do with a 1960's Viking

  • I'd appreciate some advise on what to do with this 1960 Viking Hostiller. An old friend bought it in 1960 to ride to work on but after getting a car a few years later it spent the next forty five years or so laying around in his spare room. I've converted it to single speed, built new wheels using the original hubs and re-conditioned it generally. I was hoping my girlfriend might want it as it's too small for me but she's not really interested. So now I'm not sure what to do. I'd thought about going fixed as It's got flip-flop hub and the fifty year old brakes don't exactly inspire confidence in the 21st century but I'm not convinced it is really the right type of frame for fixed. It's a lovely bike and I want to do right by it.

    What do you think??????

  • Put the gears back on it and sell it to someone who'll use it for its designed purpose - nice rides in the countryside and light touring?

    Agreed

  • Yes I was thinking that. The simplex derailleur is in great nick and the cassette's not bad. Thanks
