  • anyone able to drive me to my polling station?

ffs being crippled is driving me mad

  • [*]
The no campaign has resorted to dirty tricks, scaremongering and downright lies. For example, leaflets for the no campaign have stated 'One person one vote' - both systems give one person one vote - and 'None of your taxes have been used to print this leaflet', suggesting that the yes campaign has been getting funding from the tax payer, when neither campaign has got government funding (which is arguably why it has ended up so skewed).

    +fuckloads

the NO2AV leaflet i got through the post was terrible. it would make for a good citizenship/general studies class at secondary school to have the students rip it apart (with critical analysis) and any halfway bright child could.

  • I don't get this focus on BNP!?

The biggest victors will be Green, they are consistent across the country, it would be great to see them climb

that aside i'd vote yes just because that smug cunt in charge said to vote no.. that simple

  • I don't know. This is just my opinion, based purely on anecdotal evidence, but I think there are a lot of people in this country who want to vote BNP. Some of it may be a protest vote by a disenfranchised under-represented working cla..bla...bla...bla,.... but imo a lot of it just comes down to the fact that a huge number of people in the UK are just a bunch of massive racists.

I realise AV isn't going to suddenly give the BNP a significant numbers of seats in parliament, but I think, once you have a mechanism to increase the chance of smaller parties being elected, they will eventually get a seat.

^edit - because the Green's are a bunch of hippy's as opposed a bunch of racists.

  • but conversely a lot of people only vote bnp as a protest because they didn't want to gift one of the top 3 with a vote when they don't fully support all of their policies. AV lets people specify to a greater degree which parties match their ideals best.

  • The whole BNP thing is just a scare put out by the No campaign. Yeah, there's lots of massive racists about, but not enough to thrust a joke party like the BNP to the fore. UKIP will probably do better for AV, the Greens will leap forward (In my opinion!) but I think BNP will be one of the parties swallowed up in later voting rounds.

  • If the last election was run using AV, the BNP would not have won a single seat.

  • There are more closet organic humous eaters as there are violent racists, but the average brit would be more ashamed of of his passion for the chick pea snack than their hatred of the poles, over here stealing our jobs. in fact i have often resorted to racist comments to detract peoples attention from my shopping basket when out at the local tescos

  • I voted Yes, but had No as my second preference.

  • I'm not racist, some of my best friends are British.

  • if BNP dressed a few harp seal pups up in KKK outfits they would have the UK political market sewn up

  • I don’t believe you should have a ‘second favourite’ in politics, I firmly believe in a divide

probably some truth in this. but why shouldn't the view of massive racists be represented?

  • it's more about making every vote (first or second) count in what is now a days poorly turned out voters. what was it last time 40% ish, if that.

  • Vote YES you cunts.

  • Vote Yes or your bike will be stolen. Fact.

  • Vote Yes or your bike will be stolen. Fact.

it'll be stolen by william hague

  • ...

probably some truth in this. but why shouldn't the view of massive racists be represented?

    They definitely should!

I get really fucked off by the arrogance of politicians - when they say "oh, all those people didn't really want to vote like that, they just did because xyz..." Fuck off.

I also get fucked off by the arrogance of people in the UK, who bang on about the Americans, French, etc. harbouring racist ideas when I think this country does the same.

...and I think the sooner people get over these false notion's, and face up to the reality of the situation the better we will all be.

fwiw - I will be voting yes (assuming my Tory boss lets me).

Altho I am more bothered about the fucked up constituency boundaries than av, etc.

no. under PR there would be something in this, if the BNP had a surge in popularity they could get a seat. under AV they will never get even one seat. not a chance. they are as doomed as in FPTP. you just have to think about how the system works to immediately see that AV DOES NOT increase the chance of smaller parties being elected.

i do the same, say things like "i had to buy this mung bean and quinoa tart because all the microwave burger boxes have been touced by wogs"

  • you just have to think about how the system works to immediately see that AV DOES NOT increase the chance of smaller parties being elected.

for the obtuse among you: the only way the BNP could get a seat in AV, which is still constituency based and one seat per constituency is if >50% voters assigned BNP a higher preference than Labour (and other parties).

when are we ever going to get a situation when over 50% are actually putting BNP higher up their list than all the big parties?
