Hi there Guys and Gals,
I'm just about to move out of town to Brentwood, Essex and i'm after any advice on a route from the West end. Mainly late at night.
Any bits of nice road to take in? Any shady bits of town to avoid(i saw a thread about a gang trying to nick bikes...)?
Up to Stratford then A118 to Gallows Corner, for my money... straight, clear, fast, not overly unpleasant. The stretch of A12 east of Gallows Corner out to Brentwood is dual carriageway, though, and you do get some d-cks driving along there, especially late at night. But it's lit.. and I think there are cameras up now to temper some of the racer tendencies?
Trains from Liv St out to Shenfield finish around 1 if you get lazy ;)
Actually I forgot, you can cut out the A12 by going by Tylers Common and Great Warley to bring you up the southern end of B'wood but again, beware bad drivers at night, the rural roads only encourage them. Nice ride by day though!
Cheers for the input, really looking forward to the ride, well until november any way!
I live in Brentwood and have to agree with nicobobinus. Mile End road to Stratford, then A118 to Romford.
From Romford, i sometimes hop on a train (usually full of drunk pricks) and get out at Brentwood, or use the combined cyclepath/pavement that follows the A12 up till Brook Street roundabout.
Tylers common road is unlit, so you would need pretty decent lights to see the road ahead.
