Who should see the strategy forum?

  • Just opening discussion; should any player, world-wide, be able to read the strategy forum on LFGSS?

  • guess what i voted

  • you've won!

why should anyone be able to see the strat-forum? Will we see a benefit to the recent efforts being put in, in the LPC, if everyone in Europe can benefit...?

  • I'm neutral, not voted yet.

I'd like it to get input from international players because they do things differently to us, they think differently and approach the game differently. In the long-term I think that's of benefit to us.

However, would people post more or be more willing to divulge strategy content if it was purely London or UK?

  • As it resides on a London forum there's far more to be gained from having International input than there is in the short term from having it "private" (you can always close it off in the future)?

Personally I like to think of it like poker... you can always write one thing and do another?

Obviously a team isn't going to reveal there "big secret" in there, but I don't think most people ever would anyway?

  • I think attempting to hide your strategy from other teams (which is what Snoop's arguement implies), is a flawed argument in the long term.

Yes, you might surprise a few teams, but in the end they will catch on anyway, you are just delaying the same outcome, better to share, and have other teams be able to share with us.

As example of this look at the Formula One arms race at the start of each season. They spend millions on new innovative parts, then don't use them, or hide them in practice, but once it comes to the first race, and everyone is on the grid every other team gets to see what you have anyway, and within a few races have the same thing.

  • Hang on, I haven't even voted yet! I'm asking questions to promote discussion, nothing implied.

I am leaning towards UK only. The question is, why was the strategy forum started, to introduce strategy into London polo, or world-wide polo?

  • Hang on, I haven't even voted yet! I'm asking questions to promote discussion, nothing implied.

Sorry misread it, I thought you were campaigning to have it hidden. But my point still stands.

  • It was started to improve that standard of polo in London. I hope that over time, international involvement will contribute to that improvement.

  • I don't buy it, as by the time anyone 'cathes on' you are moving on to new things and working on new drills/plays etc.

London polo does not dominate like it should (scene size, league, throw ins every night) so this push to step up our game is kind of pointless if it steps everyone else's up as well.

When everyone on the grid catches on to the latest technological innovation, the innovators are already working on the new shit.

So it would benefit us if international teams would post up their tactics, and then not read our strategy on how to play them?

I would think it would be more beneficial to have threads on each dominant EU team, in a private forum, and London people discuss why they are so good, how to counter their best moves, etc.

E.g. L'Equipe thread, manu likes to do this, I have done this against him before and found it forces him to play like this. <<<< interesting and useful thread, but not possible with public forum. Well it is possible, but pointless. (And embarrassing.)

    Interesting thought.

  • I don't mind helping people beat other EU teams with my experiences, but obviously I don't want to help people beat my team.

  • I wanted to avoid specific threads on how to play specific players/teams but encourage threads on specific situations so that people get used to thinking analytically rather than looking for a quick fix. For example:

How do you play Vs Synthese?
    or
We just got scored on. The other team has one righty, one lefty and a perma-keeper. Their reset position is xxx. There is yyy left on the clock. The score is zzz. What would be a good way to proceed?

  • Fair point. But anyway, on the subject of the poll, I'm voting now for London only. As it would open up new/lucrative discussions that we can't have currently.

Also because I want London to be those guys on the grid with the new shit.

  • If more London players would contribute, I would be fine with it being London only.

  • The more you give away, the more you get back.

  • If the idea is for London to get better, wouldn't it be great if Team Smile posted up some drills that they do. Or Beaver Boys posted some tactics they used at the Worlds last year.

    Let's leave it open.

  • +1 if teams like that are thinking of posting up their tactics then we should leave it open.

  • There's no reason we can't have private threads within the forum.

  • We know that, but whats the point in making it private just for the sake of it?

  • What's to stop a London specific tactic subforum of here, which ever one is used more, more interesting after six months gets to stay?

  • If the idea is for London to get better, wouldn't it be great if Team Smile posted up some drills that they do. Or Beaver Boys posted some tactics they used at the Worlds last year.

Personally, I don't think the guys on these teams run drills. I think they are all natural athletes who improve through scrimmage and pub chats. I would bet a lot of money none of these guys would do anything with this forum other than laugh at it.

(I disagree with arguments I have seen on this forum that solo polo is necessary to become a good polo player.)

  • Until we start kicking more ass internationally, this forum is embarrassing. Until we begin consistently kicking said ass, this forum should not be public.
