^^^^ must have dropped something really heavy on it. I use sputniks On my polo pomp and someone stood on one last week in a pile up. It only put it a couple of mm out of true. I thought it'd look like a pringle. They really are bombproof.

What do you think it's from? My guess was from the cable stretching a bit and messing up the tension to change the gearing (just by a small amount, but enough to interfere with smooth steps)
not researched it at all (only felt it through my finger, and listened intently through the traffic) but I would reckon it's something to do with the cable being under tension, and whatever part holds/releases the cable inside the shifter cannot grip it for too long while you are shifting. Feels like a shitty plastic ratchet, and the cable just slips right through unless you fully press the button, which seems to grab it on the other side, if that makes any sense?
I hope this is sorted on the next shifters, if there are any coming out

Is it an XL one, I'm looking for one atm
Just a Large, sorry

Just building up my pompino, having some issues with the cranks though, new to this single speed malarky. What length BB is typical? I have a 103mm installed but my cranks are catching on chainstays.
-
• #1231
What cranks have you got?
-
• #1232
They're some FSA RPM double crankset from a road bike, I'm guessing they're the issue. Is there an idiot proof BB length and crank combo that will fit?
-
• #1233
What's the chainline with the the 103BB?

Pretty much bang on 42mm.
-
• #1236
You're aiming for 42mm, so if it's about 37 or something, pick up a 108mm BB and check whether you reckon the extra 5mm will allow you to clear the chainstays, or if it's more get a longer one. Also check whether the BB you are using is JIS or ISO and get the same or adjust accordingly.

Balls, posted that at the same time.

Can you put the chainring on the inside of the cranks and then measure it?
-
• #1239
Also, is your frame straight?
-
• #1240
Just chuck some spacers behind it.
-
• #1241
Chainring is on the inside of the tabs at the mo. Frame's brand new, and looks straight from eye-balling it.
The cranks are pretty shoddy, so thinking about some Sugino messengers and be done with it. -

Go for it.

I have a pompino f+f waiting under the christmas tree (early present to myself). Exciting about building it up! Torn about what components to use, though. With no offence intended, there's a lot of builds on this thread that really don't do it for me. I somehow suspect my effort will also look ugly.
-
• #1244
They're supposed to look ugly, Pompinos and Pompetamines are beaters, not Sunday best.
-
• #1245
Here's my pomp in winter mode, it was first and foremost a budget build with parts I could get through the shop I work in and I'm pretty happy with the result!

-
• #1246
Omniums are a budget build? That looks awesome, almost exactly what I want to build atm.
-
• #1247
I got the omniums at trade so much better value than anything I could pick up online, same with the forks. If I paid full retail for them they'd each be worth more than the frame!
I'm not sure what the chainstays are like on the 2012 pomps but the crank arms clear mine by less than a cm, probably something to check out if you're planning to build something similar.

I'm not sure what the chainstays are like on the 2013 pomps but the crank arms clear mine by less than a cm
A cm is massive clearance for Omnomnomnoms, I assume you mean mm

• #1249
Wait, Irishane, are you in Ireland atm? I'm looking for omniums, and it seems no one sells them.

That's a really clean build.

^^ not sure what's going on. It only really happened when it was new. Also the weather was very cold when i put it together. It seamed to improve as the weather warmed up. I've since given the hub an oil change and it hasn't happened yet this winter. I put it down to a running in period. As for cable adjustment I fitted a barrel adjuster at the hub end to fine tune it easily.
