I'll tell you next weekend, when more parts show up! Build is currently at £235, as I'm transposing some parts from another bike.

Paint is poo? Under what type of use? I was looking at a Pomp f&f after I build a beater for work.

Josh, How did you spend £500 building a Pompino?
-
• #8
taxi, that's amazing!
i'm building up a pompino as bit of a super commuter and yours is pretty much how i'd like mine to look when it's finished with the addition of mudguards and a rear rack.
do you mind if i ask what crankset you're using?

do you know how big the pompino frames goes up to? Could be a cheap build for next project.

XL frame suits someone up to about my height, 6ft4.

The paint is definitely an area that was compromised to get the price down. The one I had was very thin (noticeably thinner in some areas)

Headset, bottom bracket and seat clamp arrived today. Just waiting for levers, brakes and cables. Hopefully tomorrow...

Anyone got any spare forks - 1" steerer, 185mm or longer...??? Still searching.

I'm having issues getting my head around chainline... Is the BB axle length related to the cranks alone? for instance, I'm going to be using Sugino RD messengers, and I've read they go with a 103mm BB. Is that it? Or do I need to start worrying about my hub and it's measurements?
-
• #25
The 103mm BB length for the messengers will be associated with a partciular chainline (typically 42mm for fixed hubs). You need to match the chainline at the cranks with the chainline at the hub.
let's check 'em...
4 weeks old, £500 build, really happy except the paint is shit, comes off at slightest knock.
what are yours like?
