  • The house music thread prompted me to search for a thread on garage music, which proved fruitless, so I'm getting this moving.

I firmly believe that garage music was (is) one of the strongest artforms of the last 100 years.

I know a good number of people who are secretly seriously into their garage music but, like the non-metrosexual who mouisturises, is almost vehement never to admit this love for a music that still lives in the hearts and souls of many, perhaps more strongly than other music forms due to a percieved lonely, individual appreciation for it.

Like that teddy we all still have from our childhood that we wouldn't give up for the world, but would never allow friends/lovers to know about garage music has become an embarrasing secret many still carry. I want us to dust off our old collections, break off our shackles of social perception and announce to the world...

    "I LOVE GARAGE MUSIC!!"

As per the house music thread here are 2 of my absolute favorite tunes.

(feel free to flame me, but at least I am true to myself!) ;)

  • The problem is you have posted possibly two of the best tracks from the genre, and it went downhill from there.

  • James. Come on. There are many, many more classics that the two provided above...

    for example.

  • garage is shit and forced craig david on the world. there are a handful of decent tunes, 2 of which you posted. shout out to sunship braap

  • Garage is spotty 60s American teenagers trying to sound like the Stones, Yardbirds and Kinks... Not this crap...

    Genre thieves...

  • +1

  • Are you talking Paradise Garage style Garage, or UK/Speed Garage? (which isn't.....Garage)

  • I firmly believe that garage music was (is) one of the strongest artforms of the last 100 years.

I remember you saying that in the pub. Bold statement.

You actually missed out the 'one of' last time...

UK (less speed) garage, which IS garage - the clue is in the name!!

See this is why people hide their (UK) garage cd's when people come around.

UK garage (at the end) whilst it was turing to dubstep started to come under a dark light as some artists tried to align themselves with the street glamour of the pop-becoming-artist in the hip hop world who were discovering their carnal desire to be bold, brash and noticed through the creation of 'bling' culture.

Garage images soon became all about sluts dressed in very little, cars the artists couldn't really afford, fur and big jewllery.

This is why I believe people are so ignant (dog) about the true forces behind the garage scene and just how many really, really good tunes there were produced over it's timespan.

  • iirc UK garage led to grime then dubstep

(paradise style) garage > uk garridge

  • it was full of moschino clad twats from the start. that shola ama 'remix' is exactly the cheesy, uncreative shit that the genre became renowned for.

  • UK Garage isn't/wasn't Garage.

  • gar(b)age

  • Don't like garage myself but sell vinyl online and some garage tracks go for serius dollerbruv.

    innit.

Tip: always use the catalogue number in the run out groove to identify as there can be many different versions of a record.

    1. Craig David is a legend. Listen to any of his acoustic stuff and you'll realise just how fantastic his voice is. I met him once in Raffels on the Kings Road and he wanted to talk about Millwall, Ipswich or Totenham Warm Spurs, some football team at least. He didn't smoke, so was a role model to the kids, and his big scary Germanic looking, leather trouser wearing bouncer kept telling me that the girl across the table wanted me so bad "look at her, she NEEDS you". Lost my thread there...

    2. You have garage vynil in the loft... You never liked it?

Anyway. Please don't turn me on...
