  • ebay them.

  • Has anyone ever used http://www.luxoneyes.com or http://www.opticsfast.com ?
I want to buy some out of print Persol 2720s and google shopping has them cheapest here, but I have never heard of either of them.

  • Both accept Paypal. Low risk.

  • The name is Quinn.

    Blue Quinn.

  • They are the ones. I have bitten the bullet with Luxoneyes, as they are an italian company and what review I have seen were positive. Plus they have Verified by Visa which makes it much lower risk than Paypal.

They were the only ones that I thought suited me when I tried a load on at Venice airport while waiting for the plane to London last year. Then I asked my brother in law, an opthalmologist, to get me a pair direct from Persol, and after several months of them fucking him around he said they had been discontinued. And so they have, which makes them half the price they used to be. woo!

  • They arrived!
    And they are lovely.

Luxoneyes are definitely a company I shall use again. Great communication, Fedex shipping, and no worries about the shades are the genuine article with all the boxes and warranty papers.

I guess they buy up last season's stock and knock it out cheap - like an Italian TK Maxx or something

  • Have a question , I got persol 714 , but everytime i flip it i feel like it is going to broken , Do you think it's strong enough?

  • anyone want to buy some clear childrens nhs frames? look a bit like wayfarers i think they ar 1960s

  • jimmy savile's private stock..?

  • maybe though didnt he have a bike auction a while ago

  • After years of avoidance, around 36, it's finally time to stop hitting pedestrians and get glasses. Big problem though, my big face.
I mean it's not abnormally massive but my head in general is (according to the list of helmets, hats, sunglasses that don't even come close to fitting) is REALLY FUCKING LARGE.

Only sunglasses that don't look like a joke are Prada (have had 2 pairs, daughter destroyed both) and every optical frame I tried today in a bog standard high street place just got lost in my lump of northern dough. 56 mil lenses with 19 mil bridge were 'ok' but the arms didn't reach me ears !

I'm thinking something oversized like Bricktop in Snatch or 60's era Michael Caine.

So does anyone have experience of anywhere in London where I can try a few options that cater for the more bulbous man ? It would be fine if was all full of brain and that but after years of pondering my only conclusion is that it's just a crawl space or storage.

  • If you've got the funds Opera opera in Covent Garden will make a custom pair for you.
    http://www.operaopera.net/

  • Opera Opera are great, like Hobo says, they can do you full custom... £400-ish, the last time I asked...

  • Find somewhere that stocks police brand frames, they're generally a wide fit. I'm not in London or I'd say come see me for a proper seeing to

  • If you're ok with an older look, these guys are the originators of the Ronsir.
    http://www.shuron.com/
They can fit virtually anyone with options for arm length, lens size and (most important for me) bridge width.

  • CAT brand frames (yes, the shoe and digger people) come in very large sizes and don't look dated.

  • .. And (most important for me) bridge width.

    The scoble of optics

  • ^ nosist

  • Just ordered these

    From Dead Men's Spex
    Vintage Eyewear

I still love this website, may order a 2nd pair when I get another eye test done :)

  • Darren's great. Sorted my glasses out three days before I flew here.

  • Just been having a play around on http://www.ditto.com. Really nifty take on the whole trying on glasses over webcam thing.

  • Looks more like a lip try-on site.

  • Actually tried it out - not taking bridge size into account negates any usefulness of the site, but still good fun.

  • Went to the opticians 1st time in 4 years and then they told me for the first time ever that I can have contacts. Have tried them out and I can finally be free from the tyranny of glasses!

Turns out they're not cheap. I need toric lenses and that's £40 a month from specsavers for an everyday prescription. So who knows the best place to get some better value?

Sorry I know this is the glasses thread but.

  • I had a similar revelation not long ago.

Look up the brand you were tested with on online retailers, some can be significantly less than your high street store.
