sounds like a good idea as long as it stays non-commercial. I mean, if you found a cafe somewhere using this app, you might feel a bit miffed if you found out there were brown envelopes involved in getting their name on the list! Would probably need to have good feedback to stay on the list. (don't know anything about the tech needed or wether it's possible).
1st suggestion would be the tea-hut on high beech, Epping
PS. if this gets off the ground do you think there'd be an android version (please)

Yalding Cafe
Hampstead Lane
Yalding
Kent
ME18 6HHNo idea on opening times, but it's open whenever I ride past. Looks like a shithole from the outside, but they're very bike friendly with a large outside area, and about 30 seats inside.

What's that one in Surrey? The one that has the covered-over benches outside where all the cyclists go? Not so much a cafe, more of a shop that does hot drinks, sausage rolls, etc.

the best cheese sticks ever. at the bottom of pisslake? or something like this.

okay, this is a start.. i need to find more details for the places i stop at.. it is also useful to know when they open sat / sun / weekdays..
in Chiddingstone there is a good spot, i have a number somewhere.. we usually call them with a order of bacon / egg baps, before hitting the big drop off Brasted Hill, a bit of a ritual on the Hoffmeister 70mile training loop from CP
in response to ian(conker) i'd like to think we could get each cafe nominated to donate something to the LCEF, but that is not the reason for compiling a list.. prefer to keep it non-commercial, and support local business to provide us with the rest / fuel required.
as well as listing the usual places like RP roehampton gate cafe and CP cafe st germain, Costa Coffee Beaconsfield as rendez-vous for rides.
there is a decent spot in Hambledon. The Post Office that does huge flapjacks £1 and Pots of Tea, alas no toilet and its outside only.
Also a cafe in a park at Henley-on-Thames, full of yummy-mummys. food is very decent though.

i have an HTC android phone so the answer would by yes.. website first.. initial idea is to set up for riders to add details of their favourite stops, not sure how to manage this yet and it could be open to abuse. -

can we include pubs that have food? I remember that the pub at the top of Turners hill does cracking bacon rolls, is very bike friendly - and has good outdoor space. (I'll find the details if it's allowed in)
great idea btw

permission granted Clefty..
my favourite is the Pear Tree at Hook Norton, drinking pint(s) of Hookie brewed on the premises with a plate of scampi and chips especially on a 84 mile hilly loop around the cotswolds, or the Castle Inn at Edge Hill (alas outside our region, one for the midlands perhaps) and no doubt between london and brighton there are plenty.. i think the plan is to share our knowledge so that everyone can plan rides around those stops, whether its for 10 mins or a full lunch break.. it's as basic as that.
this leads nicely to those who prefer mid morning bacon sarnie stops, pub lunches or the afternoon cake and tea. A great ride requires good planning.

I don't have any good tips...but someone should start an editable google map or something so that all these places are organised on a map. I think such a thing would be quite useful when planning routes in specific areas. Although I guess that is the ultimate aim. This just seems like a logical initial step which might be more useful than a long 'listy-type' thread... it's easy to do and not labour intensive.

Just on the opposite side of the Green from The Pub at the top of Turner's Hill, there's a great newsagent/general store that sells all kinds of pies/pasties/samosas/flapjacks.
+1 for pisslake.

I am looking to develop a database for cyclists to source hot food and hot drinks during long rides 50-100miles. Just focusing on the home counties and outskirts of London initially. The idea came about in late autumn when a few of us were discussing where the best bacon sarnies come from.. I ride with a few groups throughout the year heading in all directions with starts in henley, princes risboro, beaconsfield, st albans, epping, blackheath, crystal palace, richmond park..
What is needed:-
establishment name
postal address
post code
open times / days
seasonal differences
capacity
telephone number
Your comments please, to see if this could be done and whether it would be useful info for all cyclists new and experienced keen to venture out of town.
