Wanted: Bianchi Pista alt.

  • Hi London guys,

I Fancy a Bianchi Pista bike, the steel chrome one (I've got a Pompino at the moment but want something a bit more flash, and sturdy).

Where's the best place to get one?

And do any frame manufacturures make a similar type of machine but with inch and an eighth head set instead of inch?

    Thanks dudes.

  • Whichever sell you the cheapest.

How a Bianchi Pista is sturdier than a Pompino?!

  • When I wrote 'where's the best place to get one', I meant which shop is most likely to have one in stock. They seem to be not well supplied.

My Pompino isn't all that stiff, I read in reveiws of the Bianchi Pista that it's made from plain guage tubing for stiffness. And that's what I meant when I asked abbout any other manufacturers that make a similar machine.....

  • It's made of plain gauge tubing because it's cheap.

  • So you selling your Pompino? Might be interested if the size is right...

  • Only selling the Pomp if and when I've found a more suitable frame, it'll probably be eBayed, thanks for the interest.

  • If you're worry about flexing because you have the legs of Chris Hoy, go for an alu frame.

  • I've tried the Pista and currently have a Pompino.

You'd be hard pressed to feel the difference, unless you're a princess with the pea.

  • I'm twenty stone (I weigh 20 stone that is) so probably do have the legs of Chris Hoy. Its the front end that seems most flexy though, I've got straight bars and I'm always noticing how much it bend when I put the preessure on.

I'm not keen on Aluminium because of how many people get displaced in the mining of Bauxite (I hope I've spelt that right) and things like the Hungarian toxic red sludge, it seems to me that steel is the most ethical bike material. Am I right?

What's Titanium like in terms of the energy it takes to process it and the potentially toxic chemicals that are used to process it, how ethical is it?

  • Weight != Power

  • Don't take this the wrong way, but surely losing some weight would make a difference?

  • ed, did you think that maybe riding the bike is being used as one way to lose the weight.

  • What about GA2G?

  • ?!?

  • Planning to stop using anything with batteries soon?

    ...

  • Losing some weight surely would make a difference but short of the lance Armstrong method of getting cancer upgrading my kit is the only way to stop it beeing so flexible.

I do use stuff with batteries but keep those things and there use to a minimum. Being bothered about the wider environment and other people around the world is abbout compromise.....

  • Don't forget that the Bianchi is a classic geo whether the Pompino is a compact geo, a compact geo mean less metal, less weight and potentially less flexing.

How about buying a second hand alu frame?

  • Thinking about it; I'd feel a lot less guilty about using an aluminium bike frame than I've let on, As opposed to the wastefulness of aluminium drinks cans and aluminium car wheels, etc.

I mean, a single aluminium car wheel is about five times the mass of a bike frame and there's actually no point to them apart from making the car look a bit more swish than normal wheels do.
