  • Ooh nice! Might glue up my battered Corsair and take it for a flight tomorrow if itโ€™s not too windy.

  • I think it was the Grummans that were renowned for returning riddled with bullets and flight controls missing. Chance would be a fine thing! ๐Ÿ˜

  • Thread derail. Anyone know why the F4U had bent wings? ๐Ÿ˜

  • Weren't the wings foldable for the early aircraft carriers? My uninformed assumption would be that doing that introduced compromises - height clearance for the carrier roof, aircraft clearance from the floor, etc.

  • The wings were an inverted gull so they could use a massive propeller, the undercarriage legs were at the apex of the inverted gull

  • Bang on. A huge screw on that double wasp. ๐Ÿ‘Œ

  • Me109 might be easier to fly unassisted but at this scale the F4U has the handling sown up.

Really lets you throw it about.

  • Whoops, just bought a Sonik Spitfire, thanks for the inspiration.

Maybe a stupid question, if I buy a tamiya kit, does it tell you the exact paints to use and how to apply them? I fancy building a non RC kit. Also any links to a good starter tool kit?

  • Awesome. Pics pls.

I think there is also a kit modelling thread.

No expert myself but most model websites have starter kits. Some of the Revells even come with paint IIRC

  • Managed around 6 minutes of flying with the Spitfire, weirdly thrilling! Even on beginner I can tell it still takes a bit of skill to fly. A few crashes and a broken wheel (nothing super glue cant sort). I also left it too late in the evening due to the heat and realised at low level I could not see the plane coming towards me haha.

My closest field is the local "dog walking field" which scuppered any chance of a high and long flight. Looking forward to finding somewhere a bit more remote and really going for it.

  • Not sure it would fit in my Shed. I wonder how investable something like this is, stocks and shares are boring..!

Iโ€™m guessing landing is also choc full of risks!

  • With all this fine weather I have been up on the downs every evening after work. Such therapy after a shitty day in the office. They are liberating imo. Especially as a real scale is such a faff.

  • Difficult to decide where to post this, so here will have to do.

Find it amazing that something like this can be knocked up in such a fashion, although I'm assuming it's a sideline to his profession. The 3D-printed wing design is beautiful.

  • See what I did there?

First Tamiya (first proper RC car), my brother raced for years when he was young though, guess I'll be ringing him if it doesn't work...

  • What you did there.

    I see it.

Now I want to see scale McRae era rally footage in Scandinavian setting.

    Ta

  • Well it turned up today and works (listed as untested) :)
But the battery needs charging and I need a charger so I'll get back to you on the Scandinavian rally footage...

  • Killer bodies Stratos Longtail on my CLK DTM.

    It is loooong too.
