In my experience, whatever name you choose, you'll end up adding a "les" or a "y" to. So Higgs would become Higgsy and Maud would become Maudles etc...
With that in mind, you may as well opt for Pengy.

Michael Foot's dog was called Disraeli, or Dizzy for short.
