in meetings, employ the uncomfortable pause as a weapon.
n.b. this only works if you're the client.

Joke in the City where I started my working life was get all your suits with two jackets, and one pair of trousers from M&S, not the other way round... that way you'd always have a jacket on the back of your chair and nobody'd know if you were in early/staying late... or had acturally gone/not arrived....

spend the day walking around with a folder and a couple of papers in your hand. if i want time away from my desk I always do this. if you work in a big office this is really easy because you can wander around for hours talking to people you want to.

I recently got glasses in an attempt to get promoted to art director. After much research, it appears that one cannot become an art director without a pair of designer frames.

Always wear nice shoes. Iron your shirts before you wear them, wash them before you iron them.
Done me good.

Or wear a jumper over your shirts if you ride to work with them in a bag.

Some are quite skilled and clearly do nothing more then meddle in other peoples work.
What little tricks do you people use?

^ This is true... But they must be frames that are now impossible to purchase... NOS, vintage, bespoke, yadda yadda...

Talk a good game. I have noticed the more people talk the less actual work they do, but others are impressed by someone who talks a good game, regardless of the end product.
This is only likely to last up to 6 months before you get found out though so ideal for short term work -

I have recently been noticing a few of the tricks people in my office pull in order to look learned / good at their job / cover up the fact they are skiving. Some are quite skilled and clearly do nothing more then meddle in other peoples work.
