  • I would attempt to interpose my body between the idiot and the child.

    K. So you're inbetween idiot and child with idiot heading quickly towards you. Are you saying you wouldn't put your hand up in self defense?

  • why do people do this? surely the bike was purchased with two perfectly good, functioning breaks, assuming it was an OTP bike, as SS's so often are - why remove one?

    is keeerazy!

so you can look like you ride a "fixie", which i guess may still be considered cool among some groups. guess they missed the giveaway detail that it's not a "fixie" though - you know, the bit where their fucking legs stop spinning while they coast.
    twots.

  • I feel it's rather due to ignorant not realising that the reason why there's a front brake is because of the fixed wheel, rather than a mere choice.

some came to Evans with such set-up, the owner were surprised to learn the reason why bike tend to have a single brake in the first place.

  • What about the people that hold the bars in by the stem to replicate the hipster fixie "cut down to stupidity" risers look, but they are riding hybrids or mtbs with brakes, gears and grips at the ends of the bars?

I saw some cretinous bag of shite approaching the half moon junction like this the other day, then promptly have a hand scramble to get to his controls in time to avoid hitting a pedestrian.

  • I'm doing a mini-series of the cyclists i see that are doing stupid things.
Named Silly Cyclists the latest video is this:
YouTube- Silly Cyclists - Episode 5

stayed up way too late watching all of your silly cyclist videos. Then went for a ride today and found myself pointing them out on my journey.

You have opened a can of worms for me..

  • K. So you're inbetween idiot and child with idiot heading quickly towards you. Are you saying you wouldn't put your hand up in self defense?

Lytton Strachey, famous homosexual, was asked (he was a conscientious objector in WW1) by a tribunal what he would do if he saw a German soldier raping his sister. He said "I would try to interpose my body between them".
    :)

  • So that's a yes, then?

  • "GET A FUCKING BREAK!"

    Get a fucking Kit Kat?

  • So that's a yes, then?

    What was the question again?

  • Its darwin at his finest let them be culled. Yes I'm leading from the front with a large pointy stick.

  • What was the question again?

It's a little way further up, but by now there are a few posts interposed between it and your post.

  • what would you do if you had a youngster with you and you spend the time explaining that they must not attempt to cross when the man is red but when green they can safely cross, then from nowhere idiot is screaming towards you and the little one?

    At a guess

  • Get a fucking Kit Kat?

    heh.

  • Apparently I'm a bad cyclist... Cos I squeeze through tight gaps. My bad :(

  • green man /= safely cross.
gotta look out and engage brain. it's a bit like saying you can just step onto a zebra crossing without looking for traffic, after all they are supposed to stop for you...

as cool as it look in MASH, the preception of risk is very high, I'm sure you already know the risk of people appearing out of nowhere, vehicles closing in the gap, getting blocked etc.

Then there are a lot more pedestrians who need to look before they leap than me.

I have never had a proper crash, I have been a messenger and ridden brake less on the streets of London for the last 6 years. I have ridden in Japan, Milan, Frankfurt, Berlin and Paris (damn I rode to Paris from London twice brakeless)

You can't appreciate how it is for me to ride in a city unless you ride the same bike as me or have the same background as me. Skateboarding had a big effect.

Do you think skateboarders go around and follow the rules of society and just skate at designated spots...

The fun of it is skating where you want to.

If I thought I was really in danger, I'd never go outside my front door or move to a statistically safe part of the world on a Quantas aeroplane.

I could go on, but I don't think you would ever get my point of view, because you are you and I am me.

Those guys from MASH don't know what its like to ride in a city like London!! There is hardly any traffic in San Francisco.

London is a city that has grids upon grids of street development over a couple of hundred years. There is no order, it is the tightest, most unpredictable city to ride in the world.

When I ride i never hesitate to make a decision, because everyone else does.

I only have to worry if everyone starts thinking like me.

This is the only bit I understand. I am confused.

My bit was only really in response to Multi Grooves further up the page saying
"what would you do if you had a youngster with you and you spend the time explaining that they must not attempt to cross when the man is red but when green they can safely cross..."
I'm just saying you should teach little ones to always engage brain before crossing the road, green man or no green man. Just cos traffic should stop doesn't mean it always does. Pretty simple (and uncontroversial) really.

Unless that wasn't a reply to me ...?

I just assumed that both comments below mine were directed at me... so disregard that!

  • i dont understand this thread??? is it about jumping reds? or is it about bad cyclists in general? I jump reds all the time....but in no way does that make me a bad cyclist. I started to read this thread through but honestly got bored beause you lot sound like a but of miserable old men. Yes there are bad cyclists, there are bad pedestrians, and bad drivers....as for pulling them up on the forum? how is it possible? I'll save you some hassle this time and pull myself up...."bad dave stop riding like a cunt! the old men dont like it!"

  • @ redrum - if a driver drove through a red light at their leisure, would you consider them to be a bad driver or a good driver?

  • @ rocksteady huh? that is a fucking retarted question! How many people have been killed by bad cyclists? how many people have been killed by bad drivers? Are you seriously trying to compare the 2? What if a train driver jumped a red light? is that the same?

  • When you see self destructive around HGV behaviour, shout:"DEAD MAN RIDING!"

    It's the new street meme.
