  • Sorry could not resist. Its RECORD not "Pekopo".

  • It's also not XB3, it's Kh.V.Z. (sorry, don't have my Cyrillic keyboard here)

  • however, "XB3 Pekopo" is instantly recognizable :) so does the trick

    XB3 is already in Cyrillic.

  • ХВЗ is already in Cyrillic.

    fixed

  • I got myself one of these Record frames for winter use. Fork/headset was borked so I have decided to replace it with a modern fork. I got one of these headsets

but the bits that go into headtube are not tight. Would anyone recommend a headset to get that fits this frame(threadless) also what bottom bracket do I need.
    Many thanks.

  • the threading on BB is so called Swiss. basically, it's the same as modern-day ISO/English BB threading, but with both sides right-hand threaded. the best idea is to have your LBS re-threaded it to English
yes, the inside diameter of the headtube is slightly larger than usual 1". to say more, it's even larger than on higher-end soviet frames, which used aluminum headsets instead of steel ones on Rekords. in any case (sorry for this useless intro) you should use some sort of tin shims - at least that's what i do - in between headset cups and headtube. your LBS, if it's competent enough of course, should handle it with ease.

  • Thanks for this info scorch.
I was planning to stick some shims in for the headset.
Will threadless BB work http://www.velosolo.com/ystbb.html ?
Anyone knows a good bike shop in south London (SE26) that will re-thread the frame for me and how much will it cost?

  • i would expect threadless BB to work - never tried it though! you could also re-thread it Italian - it has a larger diameter, so will completely erase previous thread and make new one.
i hope y'all Brits could manage that BB in there ahahahaha
    joking. good luck

  • If it has 2 right hand BSC threads, there would not seem to be any reason why you couldn't put an UltraTorque BB in there by using 2 sets of cups and discarding the left threaded ones. Use the circlip on the drive side and the wave washer on the non-drive side as usual. Old model Veloce and Mirage UT cranksets can be bought for cheap, and they convert nicely to single ring use too. The old model TA Axix with lockrings on both sides, the lockring-less Miche BB, Shimano HT2 and SRAM GXP are all susceptible to a similar hack.

For the headset, there's always Chris King oversized cups, which might seem expensive but only when compared with the alternatives. It's worth reading their tech page even if you don't use their headset, as it should guide you in designing a good hack. I'd avoid shims cut from flat stock like the plague, since you won't be able to achieve the required press fit, although a turned flanged bush can be made with quite a small wall thickness.

  • MT link to tech page seems funny please check

  • Works now

Very strange, but it apears to have standard English threading. I think the threads were too dirty so I could not screw it in when tried for the first time. So I went out and bought two Miche Primato bottom brackets that have both of the cups not attached to the bracket. After trying to fit two right side cups from both sides of the frame I realised that it has standard English threading.

With the headset I just cut some tin can material and wrapped it around the cups. Had to use the hammer to fit them in so they are quiet tight.

Here it is put together. Hope it serves me well for my commuting.
