So, there has been some confusion, and some discussions going on behind the scenes, between the suppliers and myself, and also within the association. I want to bring it out into the open so that everyone can make their own minds up.
The association is planning to order shafts in bulk from a supplier and distribute them within London with no-mark up. That applies to non-members of the association as well as members. We will deal with all the logistics, delivery, payment, and hopefully be able to get players a better deal than if they buy individually, by ordering in bulk.
Firstly, of course people can order directly from Alejandro if they want, that's no problem, we are simply providing a service for people who want it.
Sorry to Alejandro if there was any confusion in thinking there would be an order directly through him, and another order for 100 shafts from the association, they are for the same people, at the moment there isn't the demand for both.
The association is trying to source good poles (at a reasonable price), we want the shafts to be available to new players and people who don't use the forum much or at all, as well as everyone on here, and while the general consensus is that Alejandro's shafts are great, we are also looking at other suppliers, we have been given another quote, we are waiting on the sample for that, and we will continue looking at other suppliers in the future. We won't compromise on quality, but if there are two similar suppliers, we will use the cheaper one.

This is crazy man....
John, you have written me a couple of messages inquiring about the shafts and I've been waiting for the past month for you to tell me your decision.
Now that people want more and are putting down their names again you come and tell me you want people to deal through you so that it is easier for me.... Come on!
And now you go and post such an announcement..... crazy, man. This is crazy
If I was selling expensive stuff at hugh markup prices, if I was a big company trying to milk the polo cow, I'd understand... it's a dog eat dog world. But John, I am selling the absolute CHEAPEST mallet shafts around and I'm just a player trying to make an honest but humble living (and believe me, Perro del Mallet don't pay my bills). Are you really that much in need of saving up to the very last penny?
I am deeply disappointed by how you make the LHPBA look. And to think I was going to print special stickers for your mallets.....I ANNOUNCE HEREBY THAT I WILL NOT DEAL WITH LHBPA FOR ANY MALLET ORDER. IF YOU GUYS WANT TO ORDER, YOU CAN DO IT DIRECTLY FROM ME.
FOR THOSE PEOPLE THAT WANT THEIR NAMES REMOVED FROM THE LIST, FEEL FREE TO DO SO. FOR THE REST, WE KEEP GOING.Cheers!

Sorry to hear that Alejandro, the LHBPA is just starting out with the distribution thing and acts on behalf of all our members, please don't target John directly as he has kindly stepped up to try and make the whole ordering/delivering/collecting process easier for London players.
We bumped this thread to see if there was more demand for poles in London, if we got to ~75 poles accounted for, then we would have bought the 100 off of yourself and dispatched them to players and paid you in one lump sum (the association was going to front the cash and hopefully make things easier for you as a supplier).
In hindsight we should have started a new thread and then decided how to proceed as we kind of waded in on your existing thread, sorry for that.
The association plans to distribute polo products (at cost) to all of London to make the sport accessible and to provide a service to London players, we were simply looking for the best deal for our members, sorry again for any trouble.
<- Perro del mallet user and LHBPA chairman.

Alejandro, I'm also sorry you feel that way, that previous post wasn't meant to piss you off.
From our point of view, as Jono said, I bumped the thread, with the intention of seeing if there was demand for poles, and then ordering it through the LHBPA from you (or one of our other suppliers). As Jono says, with hindsight we should have started a separate thread.
You, and others, then assumed they were for direct purchase from you, which is fair enough.
Until you raised the price I didn't see much point in getting involved, the outcome would have been effectively the same, but once our prices were well below yours, it seemed only fair to let the London players know there was another option, in the end we have to think of their interests.
As i said, people are obviously free to order directly from you, rather than through the association, and obviously you can choose who you sell to, but I do hope you will reconsider that.
Again, sorry for any misunderstanding, and trouble it's caused, I'll keep any LHBPA mallet group buys out of this thread from now on.

I understand your position Jono. I address John because he is the person I've been talking to regarding this matter and the person speaking on behalf of the LHBPA. I've been plenty accomodating regarding a deal with the association. If anything, I was very excited about this prospect.
Nevertheless, I don't like this way of doing business and so I prefer to back down. I trust John can find the absolute cheapest shaft ever. I just prefer to do a more straight-forward deal and he seems a bit blinded by the bottom line.I stand by my product, not only because they are of great quality but because they are very reasonably priced. I don't think I should be selling it for any less as I am already the cheapest one.

+1 I don't want some shitty 5056 cheapo poles, I can find them on ebay for fuck all, Alejandro's poles are really solid, light, and a good price. Alej, you'll still be getting big orders from London either way, it's a great product.

"if the pole isn't from handjob, it's no good for the job in hand"
well done on that 'not having people feel negative about the lhbpa', john. This actually really annoys me you sell the idea of shafts to londoners on the back of Alejandro's poles. We know A poles are great that's why people put their name down immediately. Don't pretend there was always some 'other' supplier that your only now telling us about. You've just gone a fucked Alejandro when he did all the leg work and labelled your product as his. "no mark up" What is the difference in the mark up? 1€ 2 / 3€? I'd rather pay the extra price of a beer and know that i got a product I recognise than got something cheap for members that snaps.

Dick move how?
- We bumped the thread to see if there was interest in more poles from Alejandro.
- We contacted Alejandro for a quote for 100 poles, which would have been paid upfront with one delivery address, removing the hassle for both Alejandro and London players.
- Alejandro then looked to complete the order (as this is his thread afterall) himself.
- Confusion ensued and we're now stuck at ordering poles individually from Alejandro at a higher price (as he has to deal with the hassle and selling fewer units).
Fair enough if Alejandro felt it was cheeky using the "bulk buying power" of London to ask for a reduced price but this is what we were tasked with doing at the LHBPA meeting. We would also have potentially ordered a steady flow of poles in this way and would have put the poles in the hands of new players and for sale at tournaments, etc (which I saw as a good thing for Alejandro).
Once again trying to do everyone a favour has backfired, sorry to all, over and out.

It wasn't a dick move at all, the whole point of this was to remove responsibility for taking delivery + distribution (ask Pique how much of a ball ache this has been) and hand it over to the LHBPA and to make things easier for Alejandro so he didn't need to receive 430354848 different paypal payments from a load of different people.
The point of this was never to make a cheap buck or to shave a few pence of the price so don't start jumping of the bandwagon and saying the association are dicks. Next time turn up to the meeting and you might understand what's0 happening.

• #418
I understand, I have distributed enough group buys too. However, I don't think the distribution was the point in question here. It was John H going on about cheap ski poles from elsewhere, which, on a public thread, was basically telling Alejandro to take his business elsewhere, which I think was pretty shitty considering how much effort he has gone to.
Ideally there is some way to ameliorate this, chat with Alej, clear the air, and order 100 poles from him, at his price. The assoc then distributes over here, at the proper price. I don't see why we had to try and undercut him, and end up with crap poles.

Like I said before, I was very excited at the prospect of having bulk orders being sent to the association. And I was cutting you a deal because of the amount of shafts you were planning on getting. Easy for you, easy for me. I don't feel cheated by the LHBPA for trying to buy bulk. That is not the issue. I was comfortable with that.
The problem arises when we work something out and then all of a sudden you decide that it is no good anymore. I come to the forum and I see this public announcement that goes on a completely different direction of what we had talked before. It is this stuff that makes me uncomfortable.... the least you could have done is talk directly to me about it first. I am pretty sure we could have come to an agreement. There was no need to make this a public display such as it is now. -

Let's calm down, guys, just an honest mistake... How do you wanna do things, Alejandro?

Get on the phone and talk about it.

^exactamundo. and what Gponx said after.
Oh and ed a 'bandwagon' is when lots of people say something and you then decide it's how you think too. My opinion on how someone doing good deals is treated, publically like he said, is my own. Be fucked off as much as you like but don't tell me to "come to a meeting" if i want to express myself, the league went tits up because of allowing people to voice there opinions, but i'm not allowed to defend a friend cause i didnt come to the meeting? That's nonsense mate.
If the lhbpa starting goign around RV to make balls cheaper and easier for their members, that's not something i want to be a member of. John made this public, deal with the publics opinion. -
• #425
We're gonna have a chat about it all with Alejandro tomorrow night, I imagine we'll just try and make this order as easy as possible (fronting the cash and getting the poles into people's hands) and look into the bulk buy thing in the new year.
Attacking John is all well and good, but he is acting on the wishes of everyone at the meeting (get the best price on poles and order some extra in for new poloistas and London as a whole), so to me it seems pretty unfair.
Right, let's leave this until there's an outcome... cheers all.
