How far onto the motorway did you get before the police stopped you!?
-
• #328
Difficult to say. I was going in and out of consciousness. Anyway, I was first told to ride up to the slipway and then walk up as there was no hard shoulder. Didn't argue, but once there the cops said I could go on riding. Then they followed me around the roundabout and even gave me some useful indications. The worst bit was the start of the A23 coming out of Brighton. Broken glass EVERYWHERE!

Joe almost missed his stop (and make me miss mine) on the train back. Out like a light, took two minutes of shaking before he woke up, I even checked his pulse, he was that deep in sleep!
shit dude!
did this actually happen?
sorry!
yeah, i got a train from strawberry hill from clapham junction and kept falling asleep on that.
i've had a couple of hours and i feel fine now.
cheers oliver for such an awesome ride! -

Thanks everyone for a really great night. but special mention to:

dropout i for the shoreham geography lesson late on
everyone else for having to put up with my broken slow ass

Arrived back at about 9am. Got stopped by the police on M23 and made to go back to Crawley and take A23. My back, shoulders, knees... Brighton was in such a state? Thanks everyone for a ride.
OMG! Did you realise you were on the motorway? Did you realise you weren't allowed on the motorway? Chapeaux though fore riding back. I could never have ridden back - my right knee would be screaming so loud.

That was a great ride. I am very happy to be home and recovering now.
Great job, Oliver on setting this up and making a great route. Massive respect to all the guys who plowed on for those last hills, particularly those without gears. I wouldn't have done that.Still in shock that Dropout did all that fixed and on the barest, scariest looking plastic skeleton of a saddle.

What an introduction to forum and night rides. I have been converted and will join the worshippers of night rides.
Thanks Oliver for organising, it looked like you had done quite a bit of planning which definitely paid off. The ride was virtually hiccup free.
Also, thanks to Des for making sure no one got left behind and to Dropout for leading from Shoreham to Brighton. The descent into Brighton more than made up for being skewered on each of the "three crowns".

I now realise while home and sore after spending a sweaty night with 22 other men that I only got a couple of your names. But hey, that's Pride week.
Pleasure riding with you guys, except the fuckers who kept racing to the top of all the hills with unflagging energy.

Nice organisation chaps. The hills were, erm... fun? Wouldn't like to have done them fixed.
Bunch of goat strokers.

Impressive. That saddle looked like a medieval torture tool. His bum must be made of something else ;-)

Yes, but it was straight ahead, looked just the same (except for the big blue sign saying M23). Just thought it would be a more direct route. I saw a police car on the bridge and suspected they'd get me off.

Mwollny you are a nutter but in a good way!
Not only did dropout do it fixed and on that saddle, but he'd done it on Monday too. Hardcore.
After Monday my legs just couldn't face those hills fixed again, hence turning back to Brighton on the first hill. I feel a lot less tired now than I did on Monday though.
Awesome first forum ride =)
and great to meet everyone I met / chatted to, top chaps.

Can only really echo the thoughts above... great ride, great organisation, great company.
Full marks to the leaders and backstop for the flawless navigation and encouragement (actually, -1 point for Des for convincing me to do the last hills!).
My right knee won't bend much passed 45 degrees right now but hopefully my 6am commute will sort that out :s

Great run down, great bit of hill climbing, great ride all round. Wiped out now, my everything hurts and my sleep pattern is so out of whack I couldn't say for sure what day it is now.
Pleasure riding with you all, looking forward to sharing the road with you again soon.

I got woken up for dinner not knowing what day it was, let alone the time. So confused to be waking up in the morning, just in time for dinner!
