  • Hi all, my local cycling club is Lea Valley but turns out that now the season has started they are no longer running Saturday/Sunday rides, is this the same with all clubs and are there any cycling clubs in the vicinity of Walthamstow that will be running rides of 40-50 miles at the same sort of pace?
    Thanks!

  • Ah cheers, I think I'll go down there this Sunday, are you sure it isn't a youth ride only?

  • Jack we are still running Sunday rides!

The meeting place is Walthamstow Town Hall @ 9.00 ; then we wait 10 minutes for John Summerhayes to appear.

The CTC also go from Woodford Working mens club @ 9.00 , but we seem to meet up with them @ High Beach

    See you tomorrow then?

    Oliver, stop poaching!

    lol

  • Clearly I misunderstood the notice, thanks for that and I'll almost definitely be there tomorrow!

  • lol

I thought you might like that .

  • 10 minutes late, and then when you try to go home at the end of the ride, he keeps talking for another half hour.

    Love him to bits though.

  • PS. When's the Bill Major?

  • Oliver, stop poaching!

    Hehe.

  • PS. When's the Bill Major?

Is that the club only road race or the pre re union TT?

    Both are imminent.

Jack A met up with Lea Valley ; John S was not late because he is in France. Joe Mumford got stung by a wasp and my bike had a shimmy going through toot hill. That 110 mm is too long and so the 100mm is going back on.

  • Digging this up. Looking for a club in east london. E14 or nearby. Anybody know of one?

I'm in E14. I cycle with CyclingClubHackney every Sunday.
    Take the plunge!

  • Gonna give Hackney and Lea Valley a run out each. Ta for the tips.

  • lea valley should be based back at the cycle centre / olympic velodrome once it has all settled down
that might be a better club to join in the long run
the facilities at the cycling centre will be great when finished mtb / cyclocross stuff .. 1 mile tarmac loop for " road races "

you might even get access to the bmx track and velodrome

  • Rawrr which ride do you drop onto the speedy 8.30 or the less ridiculous 8am?

  • I've cycled with CCH a few times of a Sunday morning (8am), it's all very casual and friendly which is great but the timing doesn't agree with me. Saturdays would be much better!

if you're around one sunday (away this coming sunday though) come say hello - on a black cannondale :)

I leave HQ at 8am, usually split into the speedy group upon arrival at High Beach though.

  • I've done it once but it was super busy (loads of other newbs that day apparently). Enjoyed it though. They're a nice community for sure.

It was a ride where a lady fell on a pothole right at the start but carried on like a double hard boss...

  • Riding with Hackney CC tomorrow at 8am. Any of you lot going to be there?

  • I was! Black Planet X bike, red cap and jersey...

  • Spotted. I was the guy lagging behind :(.

  • Ah yes, spotted! How did you find the route? Being on the back is particularly tough as every time you catch up, the rested group moves off again...

  • My thoughts exactly. Found the route much hillier than I'm used to. Didn't eat/ coffee properly before setting off so I screwed myself really.

  • The second time is easier - knowing how big the hills were helped me loads but yeah breakfast/etc is pretty important!
