Bread is a vehicle for butter and other stuff that's enjoyable, it keeps your hands or food clean, depending.

What is fancy bread?
Do you mean bread like virtually all bread was made before instant yeast?

I've never got it when folks speak about completely arbitrary stuff as if their conception of it is the same as knowing about a law of nature.

Does nature have laws?

I thought fancy bread was those walnut and date type breads...you know with stuff added.

I assume fancy bread is the stuff that costs £5 for a loaf. Which to be fair, is delicious. Just a shame it doesn’t get reduced in price at the same rate as its freshness. I’m not paying £5 for it at the end of the day when it’s already ruined

I don’t get people who can’t understand that others may have different preferences eg bread made from flour water salt and bacteria vs bread made with numerous additives and flavourings, fancy bikes or BSOs etc etc.

Bread is a vehicle for butter and other stuff that's enjoyable, it keeps your hands or food clean, depending.

It's food; it can have its own flavour, texture and all the other things that make food enjoyable. This doesn't preclude types of bread that mostly just do what you describe - e.g. the standard French baguette - but there is also variety.

You've never had pan carré, have you? ;) It a strange bread that last forever and has a unique taste and texture.

Also very cheap.
