  • I may treat myself to a nice carbon stem

Don't. I've yet to see one which is worth having, except the Pro Vibe Track if you're throwing the bike around while putting out >2kW, but it's nearly twice the weight of a decent generic 3D forged one.

  • 170g

For a 1/4 of the price you could get a 130g stiff, alu stem.

  • That is nothing to do with it. It's an aesthetic purchase.

I would have pulled the trigger already but I don't know if I want a bike part with Cavendish written on it...

  • or for half the price.

  • Ah cool. Wasn't sure if I needed a carbon stem to go with a carbon steerer.

My pedals have Contrador written on them, and I've never been a fan. Nice pedals, and bloody cheap though.

  • Do they taste of beef?

  • got the s-works yesterday.It's bloody amazing

  • Do they taste of beef?

No. But there's an extra hole. So that just before a race you can insert a 'lube' gun, and increase total 'lube' volume just when you need it most. Best to be sure the added lube is clean, and that the lube storage bags, dont leave any traces, though.

    Hows the fit?
Are the wheels as nice as reviews would have us believe?

  • Not had a chance to really put it through it's paces - fit needs some adjustment as it set up with the bars as low as poss and the stem inverted. I'm going to need to flip the stem and add a spacer I think. Other than that it's incredible.

Will let you know more when I've ridden it for more than half an hour. Can say three things though:

1.It's SO stiff at the front and the huge bb makes it feel like it has amazing power transfer.

2.I rode through Covent Garden on it last night and I actually couldn't believe how well the zerts inserts worked on cobbles - basically removed all of the discomfort. The carbon seatpost/cranks /bars/stem etc obviously helped too :)

    1. So so stable at speed and nothing moves when you brake at speed too.

Only slight negatives are it doesn't have a compact (plenty of time to sort that) and I'm not in love with the Campy shifters yet - but I'm sure I'll get on with them after more than an hour in the saddle.

Nope. I'd recommend installation paste, and leave a little spacer above the stem. Other then that, stems should have max stiffness and minimum weight. So alu wins.

  • And so does my wallet.

The Deda zero 100 stem, is plenty stiff for most of us, weighs about 100g, and can be found for under £40.

Ritchey WCS, 4 axis. Also under £40

Would have gotten one myself, but wanted to stick to a Easton theme, and bought a EA90.

(ED: this looks like a bargin Deda seatpost to match, if you dont need set-back. Might have to get one. 'Dritt' means 'shit' in Norwegain)

  • Looks like a pair of turkey drumsticks

  • Erm.....yeah.....thats what I see....

.....well apart from the spread female legs that is.

  • had a bit of a nightmare with the crankset on the s-works, turns out Specialized UK don't have the spider in stock I need to change from 130 to 110 and won't get them "until sometime in the summer" .

I have found them in the Specialized US store and tried to order, but unfortunately it won't ship outside of the US and it won't let you use a card with billing address outside of the US.

REALLY don't want to have to buy a whole new crankset and pay to install it with the adaptor - any ideas?

They fit a Pro Vibe so I guess so

  • ^^
    i) bigger cassette.

ii) see if anyone wants the inverse swap on BikeRadar or something.

    iii) HTFU.

  • thank BMMF - I can't wait to HTFU up the Telegraphie, Galibier and Alpe D'huez in one day this summer

I am already on the bigger cassette case as I have a sportive next weekend and will not last long with the current gearing. Not buying a record block though - £200 for a cassette? FML
