Wanted: Cheap 46t chainset

Posted on
  • Hello!
As the title suggests I'm after a cheap 46t or 48t chainset. My BB is a square taper type.
I have seen the Stronglight chainsets on the VeloSolo site, but thought I'd just have a check here first.
I'm looking to spend as little as possible as I'm skint! Definitely no more than £35 posted, but ideally less - anyone got anything for £20 or thereabouts?
Needs to be silver and not too modern looking. (it's for an 80s conversion)
Would need posting as I'm in Norfolk.
    Whatcha got? :-)

  • Oh crumbs I've listed it with the wrong prefix!! Could somebody tell me how to edit the thread and change it to 'wanted'?? :-(

    Now changed!

  • No-one got anything?
How about up to £45 posted?

  • Not sure if these are any good to you -

Chainring might be made out of tin foil though?

  • I know it's fussy but I would prefer them in silver...black components would look so wrong on my bike...I'll be riding it every day at uni and I know what I'm like - I won't be able to stand it looking wrong!!
I'm not against buying the stronglight ones on the velosolo site, I just would prefer to buy off someone on here...

  • What about the Lascos on VeloSolo then? If you're concerned about appearance, they look loads better than the Stronglights.

  • +1 velosolo Lasco :)
(I got white ones, sort of wish i'd got silver)

  • Yeah they are better looking...it seems they only have silver in 48t...Do you think that'll be ok for heavy traffic riding? (ie stopping and starting lots)... I don't want to be struggling as I'm not super strong...

  • I've got a 46 on mine, only used for a week or so which I would be happy to trade for a 48.
[oops just rembered its 1/8 and that you can get in 46 so not much use]
But I think it would not make much difference?

  • OK...Well I think I would prefer to just go for the 48t ones and see how I go... Looks like they have a detachable chainring anyway so it would be easy enough to swap.
Have updated ad to show interest in 48t chainsets so I'll hang on a couple of days to see if anything comes up in here and otherwise I'll go for those Lasco ones.
    Thanks for the advice :-)

  • How many tooth sprocket you using?

  • 16t
