  • Time to PM'd Andy methinks, I'm pretty sure you may be right, least I only need to change the chainring on the Chorus cranks.

it's going to be a mess of old and new part, new rear derailieur/hubs/cassette with ergoshifter and old front derailieur with downtube friction shifter.

And I hasn't even finished by using Araya track rims instead of the Open Pro, oh dear.

  • So you're only having one ergo?...

  • Only temporary, got a 10spd centaur for £40 with a minor scruff on the 'hood.

Now I need to find out how to obtain the other ergo...

  • Ed, I've a pair of brand new 10sp Campag 53/39 chainrings if you want them, I think they're Chorus.

    Make me an offer.

  • BLB have some reasonably priced ergos hanging up on the wall, not sure what speed... Gutting cuz I think they were in better condition and cheaper than the ones I picked up on eBay...

  • The only issue you might have with running '8 speed' chainset with a 10 speed chain is the gap between the rings.

The chain will fit on the teeth, but you might find that the chain likes to drop in between the rings when shifting, spacing between rings is slightly different.

Most of the width reduction that has been done on campag chains is in the thickness of the outer plates.

I'd try it first and see how it goes.

New Chorus have a different positioning of the chainring bolt holes compared to old Chorus innit.

  • But a modern centaur chainring would be fine, yes?

  • I can check the BCD later if you like.

  • 135 isn't it? mine's that according to my calculation.

  • It depends if they are alloy cranks or carbon ones. I'm guessing Ed has the alloy ones, which'll mean a BCD of 135 and a normal hole placing.

  • and yes I do have the alloy one.

  • And I think I have chainrings that will fit, so everyones a winner. :-)

  • Back up andy this is my deal:-)

Ed mine were from alloy also.

  • Last time I checked 72 was less than 79.

  • Fair enough grandad.

  • When did Chorus change to have the chainring hole behind the crank a la Record and C-Record, Andy? I know Centaur (plus everything else) changed over in 2006 when the whole Campag range switched to Ultra Torque cranks.
