  • Just out if interest, and I know a few people who "cross over" as it were
If any cycle trainers also happen to be BC Level 2 coaches (or even L2 trainees) and would like some paid work in London, please get in touch via PM.
    Thanks,
    Rob.

  • What I don't get and would like to is-why don't BC
Just hire the same number of Go ride coaches as they have now?
The value the scheme gives to young people is infinite, yet they always seem ro struggle on until people just burn out of it.
It's not like the wage is that massive either

  • How do you mean?
We are externally funded, so if that dries up we don't get renewed. We often need 2nd coaches to help with bigger events/sessions and with the demand around the Olympics in London I need all the help I can get!

  • Yeah appreciate that there are peaks where there's high demand.I'm on the books now as well so helping down here at the centre on top, but booked solidly on day job as well.
Why can't they fund you centrally? Other projects like bike it in schools attract funding to meet the funders priorities I.e at present its all health so PCTs but sport cycling in schools /clubs is never gonna wane.
It's B.Cs core business just reckon worth double the number of positions on permanent staff.

  • Good points on which I can't comment. Sport England being a main funder give us targets to meet, and BC arranges staff how it thinks will best work.

Just one coach to cover the whole of London above the Thames (apart from the city boroughs, not much cycling in those anyway) and another to cover everything South of the river. With more clubs starting up all the time, staff are spread very thinly.
Personally speaking, I think London needs at least 4 go-ride coaches, and I also think the go-ride program needs to cover novice adults as well as young riders. The demand this year and in future years is going to be exceptional and unprecedented.

  • I also think the go-ride program needs to cover novice adults as well .

This. If not called Go Ride, definitely something needed.

  • I think the whole program probably needs rebranding to reflect modern needs.

There seems to be a lot of money invested in marketing, media, administration and new initiatives, but not enough in coaching, clubs and facilities.

The skyride and recreation programs are aimed at adults, but there has been an unnecessary (in my opinion) distinction which alienates those wishing to enter into the club and competition structure. The link between recreational cycling and entry level competition for adults is a huge void and currently relies on the goodwill of clubs and certain facilities.

  • Interesting feedback.I think the most we can do is to keep raising these points when speaking to the people that matter.in a manner totally unlike that we use on here.

  • No mention of.remuneration?
