  • Here's my shameful secret (like shagging a crack whore if you wish to follow OP's sexist reference)

  • Everyone looks a little ridiculous riding one - part of the charm. I, apparently, look like Mary Poppins on mine.

    You riding the Smithfield Nocturne?

Sadly not I'm in france that weekend

    Here's mine

  • Damn, how tall are you 6'6" or more?
    Nice M3L-X by the way.

  • Clever Pun is indeed a taller gentleman.

    Forum discount?

  • 6'6?? that'd be way too tall for a brompton!

Clever Pun, you can change the rear suspension into something firmer and less 'bouncy' you know.

  • With ref to the "Forum discount" q- If so I'll have two.

  • You can poke your discount.

Ed, I'm 6'1" and use a telescopic post with 2.5" of extension showing, the post above is showing around 6" therefor Pun is gert big!
As for 6'6" being to big for a Brompton I'll be sure to let one of the major share holders who is at least 6'6" and weighs in at around 19st that he must quit using his when I next see him.

A Jubilee clip round the suspension block is a good cheap way of doing this. And it's micro-adjustable. :)

Is this turning into a Bromponenger self-outing thread?

    Signing in...

I have to admit I had a fairly cynical attitude towards them a few years ago - but I practically never leave the house without mine now (it's SS - before you start throwing rotten tomatoes!).

I'm all for a bit of Phil Wood or Chris King etc fixed bling - but the Brompton is the only purchase that has actually made a significant difference to my cycling life...

  • it's all about the Gocycle.......
Whizzing down the road on one the other day caused me great joy and peals of giggles.
Mind you I'm not sure I could ever be bothered with a bike you have to charge up all the time. My iPhone is bad enough!

The new suspension blocks are far less bouncy than the old ones, aren't they Tim.

You can't have a photo of mine BTW as I haven't got one. A photo that is.

  • funny how many out of the closet foldy riders there are.........

  • There are also shoppers & choppers...

Who fitted your carpet, Stevie Wonder?

  • As (an outed) Brommie owner, one of the pleasures of the bike is not having to haul around a couple of decent locks everywhere you ride, and not having to leave your bike locked up in public wondering whether it, or part of it, is going to be there when you get back.

  • Who fitted your carpet, Stevie Wonder?

It ain't a carpet. It's a throw on top of my workplace (king size bed).

  • Ah, so your shameful secret is you're sleeping with a bike?

  • Different bike every night...

  • ^ Dibs sloppy seconds

  • yeah.. black icing what the fuck kind of an idea is that.. its on par with crumble

I don't like bromptons but i am going to defend them and join in mobstyle on the thread opener because my next bike is one of these

i used to ride one of these when the fixed was out of action, stupidly fun.

got mad props from bmxers when i bunny hopped the speed bumps.

  • bunny hop on *that?!

    I'm 6'4/6'5

I kinda like the slight bounce but when the seat post is that far up it's pretty flexy... Do you know the part no? I assume it's just a different version of the rubber stopper?

I put the extension like that and leave it there to avoid much messing around, I only want to mess with one height adjustment and don't want to accidentally raise the main seat post too high

    Cheers FT.

I've swapped the pedals to metal folding ones as the plastic one couldn't take the power

  • I assume it's just a different version of the rubber stopper?

Yup, you can specify Firm or Normal when you buy the bike, or get replacements. They used to have FIRM stamped on them as per here...

    http://www.biketrax.co.uk/products.php?plid=m6b8s142p1769&rs=gb

... but I believe the new ones are identical with no markings. I've only ever ridden with the Firm version but I certainly can't imagine ever wanting anything softer (although admittedly I use a Ti post fully extended with Ti rails set well back too). I'm also well below the weight recommendation for it though...

"Firm suspension may be more suitable for those weighing over 80kg and those who value responsiveness above comfort."

  • Nice one, thanks
