Etape du Dales for me - properly cold wet horrible weather which made for tough riding on the tops and some scary descents. 7 hours of pure suffering.
Already planning my trip back next year

I went for a 40mile spin along the south coast from Portsmouth, along to Chichester, down to Witterings, then the ferry from Itchnor to Bosham, then back through Emsworth. Lovely day for it, except the painful headwind all the way back west for 15 miles...

classic illustration of cyclist masochism there, keep it up.

Well, I know to most of you this is a poor excuse for a number of miles, but I did my longest ride yesterday - 26.6 miles! I haven't been able to get my miles up for a while due to sporting the knee injury from the Easts ride a couple of months back. Was a nice ride down to Nonsuch Park and a ride round a bit then a stop off for a carvery then back home again. :)

Just gentle 32 miles in Hertfordshire's Little Switzerland. Took my cousin's new Yank husband out who moved to London's Famous London last week. He's a mountain biker, but stuck with it and did no walking, but plenty of huffing and puffing. Set out at 7.30am and there was not a cloud in the sky. I don't think I've seen it more beautiful up there, which was easier to enjoy going a bit slower than usual.

I did 16 hours on the cargo bike on Saturday, lugging all I needed for a day round Berkshire doing the annual Berkshire Bird Race. (telescopes, tripods, binoculars)
Normally this is done by people in cars, but a few years ago we decided that complaining about global warming and driving hundreds of miles to find as many birds as possible was nuts so we took to doing it by bike.
Every year we get better and this year we found 99 species, a new record for a cycling team.
The winning car based team found 109, (for 300 miles!!).
We were going for 100, and were disappointed to miss out, but we won a prize for finding the rarest bird of the day, and found quite a few really scarce birds. -

Was actually a Saturday, hence the earlier start for a quieter run. Gears, Skyguy? Whatever next? I was actually thinking of doing the opposite and dropping the gears next time I go with my cousin-husband-chap to even up the playing field. Stevenage to London is a lovely ride, which way went you?

Copied the LFGSS route to Southend from Vikki park with 5 other dudes on Sunday. Was a cracker.
Managed it in 4.5 hours with 2 x 30 min stops and breaks for the slower ones to catch up. Reckon we could definitely do it in 3 - 3.5 hours non stop. 56 miles in total as we detoured at one point about 20 miles in. Great day, great ride... Shit destination! Can anyone reccomend a decent pub in South End????? -

"FUCK OFF WIND!"
48 miles late this afternoon around Kent in what seemed about a fortnight. Due to my route I had a headwind for 20 miles then a sidewind for around 15.
I must have shouted "Fuck off wind" about 50 times.

Trundled to Brighton with some first-timers. Nice day for it.

The first hills were just south of Croydon. Short, super steep descent ending in a hairpin http://goo.gl/maps/78EM. Fun!

Took a long test ride on a Wilier Izoard Veloce from OYB out to Epping Forest, with some staff and a couple of other normals. I was the fattest, slowest, second oldest rider on the cheapest bike. I was definitely the backmarker, but managed my most miles in a single day. Very educational.

I rode out to Box hill today for the first time. There were heaps of people out and about on very expensive bikes.
Rich people, Y U No say frienly hai? Plenty of serious types riding their own personal Sunday morning Giro.

I went out with my new local club this morning. Reading CC had a big turnout, so split off into three groups. I thought I'd best play it safe and go with the "steady" group as I haven't been cycling a lot recently. They said they aimed for a 16-18mph average. So I wasn't really expecting to have sections bombing along at 25mph. Managed not to disgrace myself on the hills which was a plus, but towards the end the wind and the miles had taken their toll and I was suffering a bit. Fortunately there was plenty of traffic as I came through Reading (no suprises there then!) so I had a bit of a rest as I got closer to home.
The cafe stop after 30 miles was most welcome as was the massive wedge of carrott cake :) I need to get out on the bike more!
Here is the route, speedo tells me ride time was 3h27 plus cafe stop, two punctures and a slipped chain: [ame]http://ridewithgps.com/routes/428143[/ame
