London to Norwich Ride

  • I'm in!

  • Also in. Not sure about 20mph average though..

  • Right, what is the plan for accomodation the night before the ride? We can always book hotel rooms etc. but was thinking it'd be good to be somewhere with secure bike parking - any ideas?

  • I think I can get us a place if you don't mind kipping on the floor?

  • Floor sounds good.

  • At the weekend me and Sparky mentioned riding down to London one weekend soon. Reckon we could leave Saturday morning and be eating dinner in London that evening, we could then train it back or stay the night.

    Anyone else interested in this?

I'll put down me and Sparky for starters

  • OK I should be in at some point

  • Floor is fine. Are there any London peeps still in though?

  • Interested in any recommended routes for London > Norwich.

Will be in no hurry and likely to be doing it over two days. There's National Route 13 but definitely open to other suggestionsĀ-on-the-national-cycle-network/route-13

Also interested in better areas for wild camping in the points in between

  • You could definitely wild camp between Coney Weston and Knettishall on the 13 route, there's plenty of woods where you'd be sheltered but be aware of wild horses inside the park.

From the 13 there's a number of ways to get into Norwich, are you looking for a scenic route? I'd assume you would like to go through places for breakfast etc?

  • Thanks for the tips @Norfolkbound

  • Did the ride mid week cycling from North London down to Tilbury and then north largely following National Cycle Route 13 (or Komoot's reinterpretation of it). A fair bit of the route was cycle path alongside dual carriageway up until near Colchester way, the exception being around Tilbury which had an interesting section on a tidal coastal path. Beyond Colchester things got a lot more beautiful and satisfying

This is pretty much the route taken

I did 160 kms first day and 120kms the second day. Having done not much riding in the last month, I was pretty spent by the time i reached Norwich mid afternoon

  • Jumping on this one, I followed National Cycle Route 1 last month. Not quite as direct as Route 13.

171 km on day one and 187 km on day two. I think comparatively it's a quieter route, lots of sleepy villages and a bit of gravel/mud to test the track clearances. Would recommend.

  • What a top bivvi spot

  • Fixed as well! Guess it wasn't too hilly? Do you have a link to the route?

  • Freewheel (minus a few steez points). Not too hilly but a few short ones worth cursing. I'll DM the Strava route for you.
