Cold dawn today
Thanks - it’s a weirdly photogenic spot, and it’s where I usually go to watch the sun rise.
It’s just west of Aylesbury, near the lost medieval village of Eythrope on the upper Thame valley. Moved here two years ago after decades in SE23/SE26 and still can’t get over how beautiful it is in an understated way. Good cycling round here, when I find time.
Such magical, much mystical.
Or, put another way, a small Home Counties river with a sewage problem! So long as it continues to fill my pixels, I will be happy with it. But having left London, I am a bit more aware than I used to be of the vulnerabilities of nature and I probably ought to do something about it other than post photos.
Would you mind not disrupting my fairytale vibe with your facts?
Haven’t had time to take photos recently but had the day off so went for a ride. Please excuse obvious Barbican photos...
Fuji X100 has come up locally for pretty cheap, am intrigued but haven't used anything from that family before - is the hybrid viewfinder jobby as cool to use/ live up to what people say about it?
Got a 5D Mk1 w/ the 40mm EF pancake for chucking in bag everyday duties but seems like this could be a better fit for that role.
Really like these! Super strong page.
Thanks! Much appreciated.
Re X100, I'm a massive evangelist for that camera. Got mine off here in 2013 and it's been a game changer for me.
I used to have a 6D with the 40mm but for the type of stuff I do (photos of bins etc), the X100 is perfect for carrying around and has noticeably more dynamic range than those generations of Canon sensors. The lens is plenty sharp from f4 onwards and the silent shutter is amazing.
Hybrid viewfinder is a gimmick, I just use the digital one.
Autofocus is laughably shit but as long as you aren't hoping to photograph anything that moves, you're golden.
Colours are amazing.
I've since added an X-T2 with a 50mm but the X100 still gets used a lot.
