  • Since these are the best and most interesting threads ever, I figure we needed one.
Im currently on 70.2 thinking of going down to 60ish.
    what is everyone else running

  • I'm running 42/17 which is 65gi or thereabouts, but might go down to 39/15 when i get bmx cranks.

  • my plan is 28/13 with 47c tyres. Somewhere in the low 60's

  • 39/15

come on UPS, deliver the missing parts NOW!

39/15 is a higher gearing than 42/17 so difficult to go down to it :-)

  • fair point, what i really meant was go down in chainring size.

  • 78.8 (48x16)

Its not fixed though. But it works great for non-hilly commuting. I have done some hills on it though.

  • I also have a MTB single speed which is something like 36x12 (77gi). Its only used on roads though. I have a geared MTB for off road.

Moving my current mountain bike from 57 GI (36:16) to 65 (36:14) .... I don't think I would able to push 77GI without foot retention ( I ride with some cheapo BMX pedals).

  • i don't understand all this gear inches stuff, currently I am running 44/17 which is 69.9 and might drop down to 36/15 which is 64.8, is that going to be really spinny for general riding? ta.

  • 52 / 16 currently 90 ish GI for completely flat commute, working on my thighs

  • i bet you go like stink with that gearing dicki!

as long as you can get moving.

  • red light jumping is a must

I've gone and bought the 15t sprocket so i guess i'll see what happens!

  • where can i purchase a smaller cog for the back? im on 44/18 which is 66, may go down a bit more

65 GI with some straps seems to work fine going around town ... there is one hill in Bournemouth I can't get up easily and it is 15- 16% I think ... Piece of piss on 57GI.

  • Yeah on my MTB I just used the standard pedals with the little spikes in them and they were fine, moved on to a lovely pair of Time ROCs now and 60-70GI sounds about perfect for on the roads.

  • 30T x 13T
