is there a hole in the HT/TT join? maybe try shake it out?
or is it only bb clusters that have the holes? -
• #3
It's the only tube with no holes. There's quite a bit in there. Sounds like two big pieces and and some shavings. Very shit IMO. Should I send it back?
-
• #4
tough one, they could say thats normal like pisto says, but you did pay good money for it so give it a try see what they say
-
• #5
the top tube on my BJ is open, are you sure your top tube is blocked?
-
• #6
Yeah. There's a slight recess in the ht but it's solid. Not sure if you can see on the pic but it's just below the thread.

My BJ rattled too, but you really don't hear it when it's ridden. To be honest I think its probably par for the course, if the rest of the bike is fine then personally I would (and did) live with it.
If its very upsetting though you can always just brace and ring to see how open they are to sorting it out?

I might drop Paul an email and see what happens. I thought i would hear it but i guess I can live with it if not.
£400 ish, you'd expect a little more care. I know it's far from expensive in the frame world, but it is to me! Will let you know what Paul says, if anything. -

I had one small filing in my forks, but it's imperceptible when riding. BJ will ask you to pay for the courier, too. Other than that, I hope the building up process is fun and you'll love it when it's out on the town; despite than the shoddy customer service, they're great frames.

Maybe ask them to refund a few bob? (hehe)

Cheers mate. Other than that, it's a thing of beauty. I didn't want too much contact with them so as not to be disalusioned. So far Paul has been quite helpful. Having said that, I might still email him.
My lbs has kindly offered to shaperone my build as my only experience is two shoddy polo bikes.
I don't think I'll br posting the result on here as I know I'll get flamed for my choice in components. ;)
Thanks Y'all, it's good to talk. -

Just check out pics of mine for tips on how to make it look stunning.

call them up, explain the problem, so they know about it now
see what they offer
explain for the moment you wish to ride the bike and see if it bothers you, and if that is the case what can be done
next up - negotiating the tricky "you zig and i zag" moment on the pavement with an oncoming person

My frame's got some stuff in the top tube too, and it was noticable sometimes. At first it bothered me but I think that was more to do with knowing it was there rather than the noise itself (my frame's about 40 years old). Now I don't even notice it so I don't think it's worth the hassle of sending it back. Put a toptube protector on it and the rattle will disappear I reckon.

All my bikes rattle... No big thing, you're just being over-anxious about your new baby... ;]
-
• #16
No teenslain, that's your dodgy back making those noises, your bikes are all smooth.
-
• #17
Why you little...
-
• #18
little? who told you?!
-
• #19
Put a toptube protector on it and the rattle will disappear I reckon.
But then you ruin the bike.

Ive got a rattle in the tt of my mercian, all the crap inside mustve balled up and turned into little filing boulders. Sounds like a bunch of ball bearings rolling around now
-
• #21
Ha quite. No padded accessories on my bike.
TS is also right, she my new baby and as i said I was anxious after hearing reports of chipped paint etc. There's a little splash of gold on a drop out and a small scuff on one decal but I can live with that. I won't live with a rattley bike though. -

Bob Jackson's is shut today. You'll hear fuck all till Thursday.
To be honest, if you complain about the bike being a bit rattly, there's not much they can do except strip the frame, take it apart, find what is rattling, rebuild it, repaint it, let it dry, redeliver.
In all honesty, it aint going to happen.
Bob Jacksons take loads of care over there bikes, much more than most places do, so if some swarf or flux has found its way into the tube then it's just par for the course.
The only thing I could suggest is drilling a little hole into the tube from inside the headtube (if you can reach!) and spraying in something gloppy that would cause the debris to stick to it - gunk, or thick lube, perhaps. -

Did wonder about drilling that recess. Sainsburys Ed, is that where your hole is? If you'll pardon the expression. I presume this won't effect the integrity of the frame?
-
• #24
drill a hole in the top tube and fill it full of that expanding foam stuff
-

Maybe they've hidden some treasure in your frame?

My new Bob Jackson vigorelli just arrived and I wad very apprehensive because of the bad reviews on here.
After unpacking it I discover a rattle from the tt. It sounds like a couple of iron filings have been left behind and closed in to the tube.
How do they not realise things like this, it makes a fair bit of noise when moved.
I guess I should send it back right?
Another week or so on the beater. Gutted.
