  • hey boys and girls,

I'm on the market for a new headset and came across this on chainreaction:

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=43494

this pic is crap but they look solid! anyone knows anything about them? either this one (cheaper) or a better one.

    website: http://www.crankbrothers.com/directsets_cobalt.php

    thanks!

  • most crank brothers products are a bit shit for the money i would look at an FSA xtreme, cane creek or a hope for a bit more money

like most parts that look 'that' good..I get your point.

  • fsa pig downhill pro is cheap and brilliant - my sencond fave after King

Mrs Myth clearly knows her stuff when it comes to headsets...

  • Oh, just get Campag 1" threaded and be done with it

  • I quite like Crank bos stuff, mainly as Its usually rebuildable. The directset does away with the top and bottom of the headset are machined to act as bearing races. This removes the need for upper and lower bearing cups. They claim that this saves weight while not affecting durability.

Having said that, I echo Mrsmyths recommendation of a Hope headset. Really well made, rebuidable, and the 'headdoctor' headset adjuster is the best that Ive used so far.

  • Digging up this old thread. Given that they're now 26-odd quid at CRC, do they deserve another look?

  • I think EEI bought one for his charge sissor, ask him.

  • Thanks. Ill drop him a pm.
