They obviously don’t want your money, so I’d just leave it

They're wise to that gambit:

Does anything happen if you go to the business account link?

It offers me the opportunity to enrol for Self Assessment - what it doesn't do is offer me the option of activating an existing enrolment
-

And when I fill that out, I get this (a variation on a now familiar theme):

I'm glad it's this easy.
On which note, I'm going to give up for the evening and will try again tomorrow when the Helpdesk is open.

I'm glad it's this easy.
Once you're in, it is. They could do with making it easier to get in.

Wow all of this makes me feel happier about paying my accountant to sort all of this out for me.

makes me feel happier about paying my accountant
If I had to deduct accountants' fees from my profits, I wouldn't have to pay any tax at all :)

I've finally managed to login, only to discover that I owe £5,765.00.
Which is annoying.

Holy shit, is that legit? I've found the website to be shit but they've always been really helpful when I've spoken to them on the phone. Was late sending the self assessment last year because of similar login shitemare and they eventually cancelled the fine for me after sending an appeal and a couple of phonecalls.

Have been putting mine off, might get an accountant to sort it after also having log in nightmares.
-
• #242
Well I've submitted my return, I re-calculated a benefit and therefore what I owe jumped up by £100, so that's all done. I look forward to my tax free allowance being a negative figure forever.

Have been putting mine off
Rarely a great plan :)
Did mine in July, but I haven't wrapped the Christmas presents yet, so there's that. -
• #244
Mine is always simple (I have hardly any other income) but I end up owning them a smallish chunk each year.
I tend to leave mine until near the last week of January and then hope that my login still works.
-
• #245
I know I know, I've haven't wrapped mine either and my go to source of wrapping gifts while I supply wine is away.

I end up owning them a smallish chunk each year.
I tend to leave mine until near the last week of JanuaryYou don't need to do that, your payment schedule doesn't change based on when you file, except in the happy circumstance where you owe them less than expected, in which case filing as early as possible can reduce your payments on account or even generate a refund.

I overpaid by £7k last year. Free money! Wooo!
-
• #248
Free money!
And HMRC are paying more interest than most instant access saving accounts, so it's a double win :)

I just received clarification on a taxable benefit, updated my return, now owe £6,057.80.
This game is rubbish.
