No one cares what you think.

I'm not going to be able to afford a high(er) end frame for at least 2 years as I'm saving to emigrate. Obviously I'd like a better frame and components but I have to work with what I've got sadly.
After some thought, my deep v's and bullhorns etc. might get me in to the anti porn thread on a BJ bike, as I gather it's more respectful to keep these a bit more traditional.

Surely a BJ is a nice frame. Hand built from reynolds tubing...
I'd spend the money on a BJ over a pista and upgrade components as they die. Having said that, for the money you spend on a BJ, some pretty sweet stuff comes up on here. Sadly, not often silver and in 51cm.

Good points.
That would mean buying 2 lots of parts for it though, which seems a bit silly especially given my time and budget constraints.I haven't seen a chrome / silver track frame in my size for my budget around at all though, hence this thread.
I do think that the parts I have will gash-up the bj but look good on the pista. I planned to buy the frame first but when you see the bits you're looking for, you have to get them.
Deep V's and bullhorns on a BJ will put me straight in the anti porn thread I'm sure.
Cheers Balki.

Sell bullhorns, bung on risers purchased with the proceeds. Then it will look like just about every other BJ I've ever seen.
-

The BJ vigorelli isn't a bad frame, it not going to fall apart. But for the money its lazily built, and one could get something nicer. Like a custom Orlowski in silver and 51cm (£400)
But if you are set on one of the two options I'd get the BJ over the Pista, as it is a handbuilt frame.

• #33
How much does a BJ come it at nowadays, 'arry? They were £325ish last I looked, which admittedly was a long time ago.
-
• #34
yeah yeah, £15 just off kingsland rd.
-
• #35
Ha, 'zactly.
I like the riding positions of bullhorns tho.
And to add to the potential ridicule, I'm going for baby pink with my accessories. Yes, pink.
But it's all about the comfort, so I think Pista now, nice components, maybe upgrade frame in Oz with cheaper NJS stuff.

I've always gone for the nicest frame that I can afford- it that means going for naff components then so be it- they are the parts that will wear out/break/be replaced when you have some more cash.
Will Bob Jackson Chrome a Vigorelli for you? I would imagine so.
It would be with pink parts as much as any other frame out there.
The Bianchi Pista is a mass produced OTP, and whilst there is nothing wrong with it you can, I imagine, get one over in Melbourne.
How expensive would it be to get the BJ here and take it over vs. ordering one from Melbourne when you tire of the Bianchi?

Have you looked into anyone who could chrome a frame for you?? Like a local metal platers rather than a frame builder, you can probs get it done for 100 quid or so if you strip it yourself first with a bit of nitromors.
I was once qouted 25 quid to get a pair of forks chromed but that was up home in Halifax not in London. You should easily be able to pick up a half decent track frame off here or ebay for 200-250 if you have 350 to spend on a frame.

Seriously, BJ vs. Pista, particularly in Melbs is no contest.
Dammit is right.

have a ring around BJ charge a fucking fortune for chroming think they charge a hundred quid for forks only, Go to a metal finishes/electroplaters will be less than half the price, I guarantee.
Or if none of them will do it, try the place I mentioned earlier you might be able to get them to do it if you courier the frame up there and back again??
He told me he has done a few bike frames in the past and he mentioned that he would protect the threads etc, so he's not a cowboy. You just have to prep the frame first to bare metal.

£150 to chrome the Vigorelli but tbh I'm fine with the silver. Not paying £510 on a BJ, that's crazy.
I do want the BJ, but don't want to gash it up. As much as it's about the quality, fit and feel of the bike, I want a nice looking bike too, and the one I've been hatching in my mind is chrome (silver at a push) and pink (it's subjective and I'm a girl). So I'm not sure that the BJ won't turn in to complete anti-porn, esp since I want bullhorns for the varying grip positions.
The Melbourne thing is a big factor though.
If it's not too much of a sacrilege (even though it's only a vigorelli) to attach hipster accessories, and won't look gash, then I'll go with the BJ.
Thanks for the advice from the Oz contingent, and the others.
It's good to talk. -

chromed bj will be very very heavy! :(

You can get this BJ off the shelf in metallic siler 365 quid?!?!?
Or they do an "alley cat" frame available in the same colour for 400 quid.

If you want a silver bob then maybe go for one of those.

Good point Mister Balls.
I think I'm over the chrome as I can't afford / find a decent small chrome track frame. So, I'm probably going to reprazent and take Bob to Melbs with me.
Found this which I think is the nice silver they do with the white decals.
http://velospace.org/node/4141I'm going for the Vigorelli as I don't really like the braz-ons on the Alley Cat.
Wish they did more options in the colourway decals as I like what Adoubletap did with his matching with colours and decals.
Thanks for the input guys. Expect to see my pink pimped BJ on the anti porn thread soon then.
Now, does anyone want to buy a slightly upgraded SE Lager? Anyone?
-

As your budget went up £50 in two days maybe you should wait for January and buy a Rychtaski? By then it will be enormous ;)
Cheers H. Proper porn. I 'almost' wish I wasn't saving to emigrate so I could afford it. I have about £300 budget sadly. Will swing by to dribble at them in Jan then.
Am also looking at silver frames and thinking about Volume cutter V1 if there are any around in my size.
Still looking, my £350 budget not enough for NJS.
I may have to stick with the Bianchi Pista route god damnit. Anyone got a small one for sale? -
• #47
Ha, right. I have a budget, but then there's always a little bit of a scope. Actually it went up £80 in order to get a BJ delivered. So then as Harry says, I may as well get an Orlowski and bump the budget a further £20.
a £400 frame will impact my component budget sadly, but I guess the upgrading never stops in this game does it.
I definitely can not stretch to £500 for the Rychtaski, else I'll be dumped and won't be emigrating at all.Might pop in to BLB in Jan to have a look at it though, and to check out the silver Orlowski if there is one?
Off to do the lottery.
SE Lager anyone? ahem.
And thanks again for recommendations everyone.

I don't think either frame is very good.
I'd hold out and save up a bit and wait for summit better to present itself to you. It always does...
