  • Don't know how many of you have tried Moong dal omelettes, but I can testify that kala nanak makes the result sufficiently eggy that my partner, who hates eggs, won't touch it.

  • peta is 100% a grift to make videos directed at already weirdo, almost evangelic vegans so they donate and prop up their grift, like most large scale non profits.

  • Yeah i originally added a ... to the end of that statement but didn't want to get in to it with anyone as i really don't know enough about them.

My partner thinks certain celebs endorse them so the videos get a lot of shares through social media channels. I'm still not convinced that the shock tactics work on people who need to rethink there lifestyle choices though.

  • Looks interesting. My wife, who's fine with eggs, says everything smells too eggy when I break out the black salt, always smells worse before you cook it.

  • I'm still not convinced that the shock tactics work on people who need to rethink there lifestyle choices

..yea, I was just thinking that maybe things have changed quite a bit in the last, say, five years or so, regarding the necessity of "shocking" tactics to actually galvanise people. Like, I suppose it was kinda necessary to really show the graphic images, the undercover footage (by PETA members as well as others), to really rub it into people's faces so they acknowledge what's actually happening.
I think there's much more awareness now, and that shocking approach might not be effective any more. A lot of people have seen these kind of images now, it isn't of much use to show them again.
You probably need to communicate on another level now to reach people, one that touches their hearts.

Also echoing what @ltc and @Oliver Schick said.
It really is a weird organisation and seems dubious to me on various levels as well.

That ad is good actually - but like @Maj said it is preaching to the choir unfortunately.

  • For anyone thinking about the Gauthier at Home box they do a referral £10 off thing so here's my code

Big thanks to @JonD for spotting

  • Thanks for this, had been meaning to get the Korean box for a couple of days

  • Thanks, ordered the classic box for a couple of weeks time. Really looking forward to it!

  • Made a vegan babka. Didn't have any chocolate and couldn't be arsed to go to the shops so filled it with biscoff. Pretty pleased with it. Recipe is here https://domesticgothess.com/blog/2020/05/17/vegan-chocolate-babka/

  • fuck that looks like good ride fuel.

  • this is what I needed to see this morning.

  • Fuck they look amazing

It's going to fuel my watching of the Tour of Provence

  • Why didn't you post that yesterday so I could've had it rising last night?

  • Made a vegan babka.

    ooohh, looks delicious!

  • Foolproof pancake recipes anyone?

I do a decent breakfast/American type pancake (sweet and thick) but no idea when it comes to the Pancake Day* type of flat pancake that goes with anything.

    *Which is tomorrow

  • I only really make american style usually. Might sound stupid but could you just add more liquid so the batter is thinner? Add less baking powder so it doesn't puff up as much? I don't think I've made really thin pancakes since I've been vegan.

  • I think there's much more awareness now, and that shocking approach might not be effective any more. A lot of people have seen these kind of images now, it isn't of much use to show them again.

Totally this. I think pre-youtube and social media activism etc. the general public were far less exposed to the shocking images that now fill their news feed.
One friend of mine who is currently considering a 'serious lifestyle change' commented; "for someone who loves animals that guys news feed sure is full of animal torture" and he's genuinely repulsed by it. However, all one has to do is hit ignore, un-friend, turn away whatever and in the case of my friend, he feels it's too confrontational. Where we do make progress is by having a good old fashioned conversation and he absorbs far more information by me politely and tactically explaining things rather than pushing the 'your actions are hypocritical and you pay for abuse' angle.

  • Should anyone still need pancake recipe I went with this: https://www.greatbritishchefs.com/recipes/vegan-pancake-recipe

They were ok, not quite as flexible as a "traditional" pancake which made flipping over a bit harder and I split a few but worked out alright. Mix could probably be a bit thicker tbh.

  • Very generous (depending on your level of support) offer from Minor Figures.
If you can, show some support for a small scale local producer.
