Less a vegan thing than a general animals thing - utter cunt insists their pet be killed when they die, despite it being easy to have it adopted:
Separately, a mate showed me an article recently (possibly The Times?) indicating that 19% of people with pets in relationships would consider having the animal put down if they split up. Fucking humans...
-
• #6404
19% of people with pets in relationships are cunts? I thought it was much higher than that
-
• #6405
Many others are cunts, just that they wouldn't put the pet down.
-
• #6406
This could work the other way as I guess if they were a cunt... the dog dies so they have to euthanise the owner as well?

Does anyone have suggestions for places to eat in Brussels? I've got a long drive from Leipzig tomorrow so thinking I might treat myself to a decent dinner instead of cold pasta and salad again.

Was anyone planning on going to Vegan Campout in Newark this year? It's come out that the organisers have told Hunt Saboteur groups they're not welcome anymore due to pressure from the people who own the land who seem to be connected to the Countryside Alliance. I personally wouldn't attend as a result, it seems really odd that an event that's supposed to encourage ethical practices and promote the importance of animal rights would take a platform away from animal rights activists to keep people who take pleasure from harming animals happy.

Amen to that.

Organisers' statement:
"The Countryside Alliance had been trying to get this year's event
shut down by putting pressure on the venue with claims of 'extremism',
and even ran an article with the Telegraph with an 'expose' of the
Camp-Out. We obviously denied these claims and put out our own
statement. We were asked by the venue to remove the Hunt Sabs from our line-up,
not from the CA, we have never had any communication with themThis was unfortunate, we weren't happy about it either (one of our
main team is an active hunt sab) but it was the right decision so the
event could still go ahead. The event sees hundreds of non-vegans
becoming inspired to go vegan after the event, inspires thousands of
vegans to be come activists through our activism workshops, donates
thousands of pounds to animal rights organisations, as well as
supports/gives business to almost a hundred independent vegan
businesses over the weekend. And this is the bigger picture of the
eventWe have always supported the Hunt Sabs and will continue to do so. We
gave them a free stall at every Camp-Out there has been, and have
invited the Hunt Sabs to the event once we get this issue resolved for
future years, but for now needed to make sure this year's event went
ahead! The countryside alliance have been trying so hard to get this event
cancelled, and if we had done that, it would of been the biggest win
for them. We've stood our ground so the event can still go ahead,
which makes them furious" -

Does anyone have good experience or a personal recommendation of vegan or vegetarian caterers in London. Needed for an event next week eek!

They're excellent (disclaimer: they're also friends of mine). They do great finger food, if that's what you're after. Every meal I've had with them has been delicious--their Persian-inspired supper club a few years ago was definitely one of the best meals I've ever had.
Hope they can be scrambled at short notice!

Still feels like a bit of a copout to me. Doesn't help that the venue is owned by a company that owns a publication called "Farmers Guardian" which seems to be solely based on the meat and dairy industries. I'm surprised they allow any sort of pro vegan event on their land at all.
I do see the point about the positive benefit of the event raising awareness of veganism in general though. I just don't see why they can't do it in a place that's more supportive of animal rights in a broader sense. -
• #6423
I don't disagree, but the fact is that there are aren't many potential sites capable of accommodating the event, even fewer that are roughly in the middle of the country, and effectively none that are financially viable and completely untainted by animal agriculture. Alternatives are being sought, believe me.
(disclaimer: I work for a 'partner' organisation, albeit with no involvement in the event management.) -

Well, at least it is good and proper that everybody's using disclaimers now. :)

Eats and Easts tomorrow--6pm at Cook Daily in London Fields (just off Westgate Street), then Easts at the Chesham Arms in Mehetabel Road, probably from about 7:30. Come along, especially if you haven't been to Easts before.
