Bite the bullet, get a credit card, join the Matrix.

bah! i don't really want to sign up to a credit card just for one verification. also, i think that my credit rating is probably nonexistent/terrible....so i doubt they'd even give me one!

get a credit card. If you ever want a loan / mortgage / life in the future you'll need a credit history. Use it a bit and never miss any payments.

get a credit card
etsy is lowest common denominator for selling things, if you want to make any real money on it you have to be really good at what you do and promotions. Any one I know who makes a living off their craft and has an esty store sees it as a side income, and not their main point of sales.
What are you planing on selling? Market Publique is much better for vintage things, and Shrimpton Couture or aspiring Couture are better for clothing if you can get on them.

thanks for the info chris. i'm just using it as an extra thing really, not selling clothes or anything, just some crochet bits and pieces. similar stuff seems to sell reasonably well on there. i'll pass the info onto my housemate tho, she's an apprentice taior and starting to sell alot of the stuff she's making.

Does she have a site, I would love to see some of her work, also let me know when you get the store up.
