reminds me of the way road racers throw the bike out in front of them at the finishline in a sprint finish. this certainly offers an advantage in that case. I cant see that popping the front of the bike up in that fashion could be advantageous, surely it would slow you down slightly?

Watch from 3.00 in this video, Awang in the black wins with a wheelie!
Meh.. he stole that from Ryan Bayley. Awang trains with 'em in Melbourne.

^^^^^^^Does it give you an advantage doing this?
He won.

Because of the wheelie?

Ellis popped one like this to win over Levi Maximillian in Manch..

If you mean the German rider, he's called Maximilian Levy.

Awang does the wheelie finish quite a lot..

Showboating plain and simple.

I think scherrit made a good point about what happens during balls or flange out efforts.
Good of you to acknowledge female participation in the sport.

Did he then lean right over and also win the skidd comp tearing up the manc wood? ..haha can you imagine leaving a black streak from the finish line to the banking I think they would take medals away for that & life ban!

I yelled 'do a skid' to quite a few of the sprinters.. bloody snobs didn't perform though.

Are those wheelies above caused by shoving the bike forward and so shifting the balance backwards thus lightening up the front wheel?
-
• #66
True, but I wasn't really using Cav's road sprinting as an example of what dammit should do, just thought it was a good example of putting weight forward to an extreme.
I know. But I'm a bit obsessive about context, and the kind of brainless fucktards who skim read threads on this forum, cobble together disparate and misinterpreted info, and then set off on their bikes to flirt with disaster... well, they need someone to look out for them, and I'm a caring sort.

I'm not sure if I've covered the transgender angle :/

Rah.... spect!!!! amazing pics!
And another thing.... this sort of throwing your bike around malarky is yet another great reason for being really REALLY sure you glue those tyres on well! make a teeny, tiny leedle mistake with your glue process and put the front wheel down skew..... spend a really long time pulling splinters out of your ass, your face etc etc....
Cheers,

I had a similar problem, kept picking up my front wheel in a very dangerous fashion when I was out of the saddle. I just shift my weight forward more now over the front wheel. Sorted!

Dammit, do some upper body work, pull ups. sit ups, push ups. I've been doing lots recently and have definitely noticed better stability on the bike, both when sprinting and spinning quickly. It really does help!

scherrit runs bike whisperer, PM him
core strength is good, but also work on flexibility, as this will help you move your body more forward and lover (thus putting more mass over the front wheel)
yoga and pilates can really help with deep core control and flexibility which can only help
when i had just started riding fixed i did have a few of those wheelie moments when setting off at traffic lights but has not been a problem for ages

won't he be naturally more flexible when he has the muscle for it? coupled with fat loss obv.
-
• #73
my understanding is that as you gain muscle bulk you tend to lose flexibility, hence disciplines like yoga and pilates that work on both are so useful
i could be wrong on all of this

Nope, muscle bulk has nothing to do with flexibility, for instance...... I can do the splits, admittedly it does freak people out a bit when I do it.
But yoga and pilates are very useful, as is regular stretching. -
