  • Thanks Scarlett for persistently attempting to arrange what ended up being the first SMTNRC of the year. Thanks also to Tim for directions and Jan for the addition of the GPS.

Nice to see some old faces, and nice to meet all the new ones too!

46 miles all in, and my legs needed every single last one of them.

  • Oh, and hands up who punctured?

    Me for one.

    Me for one.

I had two. Thanks to George for giving me a spare tube.

  • lovely ride, great company guys!

    bring on the next one...

  • What a perfect season-opener. My (SM)TNRC debut and I loved every minute. Thanks especially to the organisers/navigators, and to everyone on the ride for making it such a jolly outing.

  • PS Tim, apologies for attempted theft of your coffee. You've got to watch me, always been a bit light-fingered. Nothing personal though. Karma was clearly at work, five minutes later I left my own coffee on the counter when we dashed for the train, without so much as a sip.

  • @clintexsmoker
Glad I could be of service with my inane whistling.

    @everyone
Thanks for making it a really nice morning day. Nice to meet up with old and new faces.

I saw some Llamas! Honest! BMMF saw them too. He looked at me strangely when I shouted LLAMAS! at the top of my lungs.

    I fucking love cycling.

  • The weather could not have been any better, and as Tim said, truly great to be out on the first SMTNRC of the decade.
Way too many punctures, but not even these could lessen the spirit of another great ride.
Shame we had to split up towards the end, but I guess that's what happens when the route is altered along the way, and then loadsa other cyclists on the roads cause confusion.
Nice to meet the chap from Belgium (sorry, crap with names) and see Max-l again.
As ever, a pleasure to ride with regulars and new-comers alike.
Jonny and Martin were missed, but I'm sure they got their own miles in.
Hope you got yer saddle ok Pistolero.
    White bar tape ftw!
Oh, and Scarlett - Thighs Matters - Let's get Partridge on the case.
    Until next time...

  • That's the cafe at the top of the Tourmalet, no?

  • National Lampoons SMTNRC does Europe.

  • Nope.. it's definitely in Essex.. that's not a mountain in the background.

  • I fucking love cycling.

    +1

    Lovely ride, thanks all.

  • Tardy post, but first time back on my PC - with the exception of my navigation (?) skills and a detour to Brentwood, lovely ride on Sunday. Great company and good to get back on the bike properly. Suppose the detour was extra miles - I'm blaming them for dying on the squash court last night anyway.

Ashdown in two weeks feels a tad ambitious though - a bad weather excuse will be most welcome.

  • des - what time you starting ashdown? i got 10:25....clever eh!!!

Think I got about 10:00 - suspect that our paths will cross early on then. Haven't ridden a geared bike since the last TNRC outing, thinking about trying the Surrey Hills route this weekend as hilly reminder.

  • might join you if it's sunday

  • great to ride, loved fording the streams (new overshoes and mudguards WIN) and meeting/seeing people again.

will be riding this weekend, hope to see some of you.

ps - balmain, that was me that shouted at you on putney bridge on monday!

if ya don't mind an extra person tagging along i would be keen on doing this too...
i have too pondered the ways in which squash and cycling are mutually beneficial. bicycle squash could interesting but probably best played with unicycles.

Ahem, can come too please? :)

  • What about Sunday then? - according to trainline there's a 9:32 to Effingham junction from Waterloo and returns at 06 and 36 each hour. I'll probably be on fixed and slooow. So any takers?

As for squash and cycling - a terrible mix for me. I've played a few times Monday/Tues after a Sunday ride - all fine for about 25mins then suddenly you've got legs like bambi. Doesn't effect my lack of technique though.

    Wooooaaaahhh

    Wah-PannnnG!

Oh, and quite possibly for a Sunday in Surrey.

  • I am toying with the idea of the Harp Hilly reliability trial, on Sunday, but its a bit of a mission.

I'll keep an eye on this thread for some takers for some gropesave action in Surrey this Sunday. So if there is a few of us going I am definitely interested.

Is this route signposted? I am up for it if it is.
