All set, i bought some sealskinz socks and some 3/4 length bibs (a purchase i've been putting off for ages). Looking forward to putting them both to the test tomorrow. I guess i'll be aiming to get to kings x by half 8ish.

Oh, it's come back now. Weird.

Blinkin weather, it looks like a morning 1 hour ride in the rain to Kings X or 2&half hrs rain to Welywn, I think the 1 hour wins and a sunny 2&half roll back from Welwyn in the early afternoon...
See y'all tomorrow at some point. -

Which side of the station are we all meeting, the shopping centre side or the underpass side?
-
• #364
We've always done the surreal side before (descending escalators with bikes), because the underpass entrance is shut late nights.
I don't want to break with tradition (and the underpass side is fucking grim).

I wonder what the lycra to non lycra ratio is.
-
• #369
i don't get why cyclists are so anti lycra. try riding in some decent stuff and you'll never go back.

(NB none of the following is aimed at Julio, of course.)
It's an endless subject--to do with making cycling appeal to everyone, for which a lot of people think it's really important to wear 'normal' clothes. The idea is that by wearing 'normal' clothes, you make cycling normal by extension. Well, for me lycra is normal clothes. :)
The bit I don't understand is why people think lycra is unsightly. Admittedly, it doesn't suit everyone, and there's very badly-tailored lycra, but I think it often looks great and I can't put the anti-lycraness down to anything but an actual refusal to consider cycling normal.
But it's a complex subject, and I think a lot of the background to this are things that people don't fully understand, such as the visions that people have of Continental cycling in heavy and non-practical clothes, which is often only possible because average trip lengths are so short on the Continent, in smaller places than London. There's also a vision of greater justice there. I think the Tweed Run does a brilliant job of appropriating that clothing symbolism.
But for a road ride, yes, make sure you have at least some padding in whatever you're wearing, lycra or not. :)

i think you are looking at about 50:50 tomorrow juliette. the route is essentially flat and doesn't really require gears.
i am taking my geared bike just cos i haven't been on it since the Ride of the Falling Leaves and it will make a nice change.
the weather doesn't look good so am gonna go for lycra rather than casual gear.
come and join if you can.

I love lycra! But if I'm honest I've got to admit that I feel like a nob if I'm the only one wearing it.
-
• #373
Nout wrong with lycra.
Which platform does the train leave at Kings Cross from and where will everyone meet?
-
• #374
Gotta pull out of todays ride, work colleague has rang in ill who was on call, guess who is on call now?
Sorry all, make the most of it out there. -
