  • Always nice to find a source of smugness. Even if I have absolutely zero need for a mobile phone video editor app.

Yeah, eat my compatibility, suckers! Take that! Party!

  • Thank you for testing folks, appreciate it. And thanks @Stonehedge. Note to self: In future, if in doubt with anything, PM Stonehedge directly! You know everything, sir!

  • Please dont make the mistake of thinking I know what I'm talking about. It leads to bad places.

  • Recieved a Galaxy Tab S6 today. Pretty impressed so far.

I've spent the last five years or so trying to get along with iOS on iPads but it has never stopped feeling like I'm being constantly patronised and forced to do things a certain way all the while not being permitted to tinker under the hood.

I appreciate that my disdain for iOS is individual and against the grain but it feels fantastic to have a high build quality tablet running android.

  • I had the opportunity of buying a new work phone, my current shit house Xiaomi Redmi 6 is going to my successor... I bought an ex-demo 128Gb iPhone 7 for mad cheap... I hope I have not angered the Android Gods, my first iFoon!!!

  • I need to put my phone in to a shop to repair the screen (don't have time to do it myself) and I'd rather it was formatted before hand. I appreciate most of my contacts and pictures etc. are synced to my Google drive, but it's there a way of just taking a disc image of the phone so I can get it back to where it was before formatting easily without having to download all apps again?

I had a brief look at TWRP before but couldn't get it to work easily. If there's an up to date, foolproof guide to that process please share.

Yeah yeah, but what's gonna happen to your Mario Kart stats?!

  • Got fed up of my g6 rebooting randomly, just taken delivery of a Pixel 3XL ordered on a whim. First time I've been able to install a glass screen protector without wanting to hurl it throw a window

  • Ha I used to be so anti screen protectors for the sole reason of fitting them. So many of them come with a frame now that you put around the phone so it lines up perfectly. Makes life much easier.

  • Pretty sure the frame helped. Plus I bought a pack of three just so I wouldn't annoy/stress myself out, fully expecting to scrap at least one.

  • I miss my old Sony tablet running cyonogen, traveling with a laptop is needless most of the time.

Does anyone (Inc Chinese specials) do a tablet that is:

    • vanilla android with no bloatware or skinning (soz no Samsung)
    • 10" ish
    • USB C
    • expandable storage (SD card)
    • at least average battery life

    Use case is:
    Watching Films when traveling
    Web browsing
    Lightroom mobile

Don't care about speakers, cameras, SIM slots etc.

What id love is a pixel 3A in tablet form

    Lenovo tab p10?

  • I have a Surface Go which I use for that kind of stuff. Obvious issue that it's Windows, not android.

  • Does anyone (Inc Chinese specials) do a tablet that is:

gsmarena has a tablets tab. If you eliminate Samsung, there are about 3 tablets between 9.5" and 10.5" with USB-C, a card slot and Android 8.0 or higher. If you really hate skinned-Android, you can eliminate the LG too.

  • Setting up my google pay. It asked me if I wanted to set up google pay as my default or use virtual uicc payment.

Any advice on which to choose?

  • Sending my Pixel 3 off for the third time in a year and a bit, faulty volume button this time. Pray 4 me

  • Anyone here use a Pixel 3 with bluetooth headphones?

  • Yeah, Airpods. Work pretty well

  • I ask because I've noticed when I turn my phone upside down to put in my pocket the music volume seems to decrease. I've tried looking for a gesture setting or something but can't find what would be causing it. Have you come across it at all?

  • Don’t think that’s unique to android phones, I get it on my iPhone at random times.

On that note, I’m very shortly coming over to Android, do you all have antivirus?

  • I assumed they were expensive, but they look reasonable second hand.

  • gsmarena has a tablets tab.

Didnt know that, will have a play, thanks.

Never had antivirus on any of my android phones. Been ok so far...

  • do you all have antivirus?

I run Norton Mobile Security on my phone, mostly because I had a spare subscription on my desktop package. It has never generated an alert, so either there are no threats or it's not working 🙂

Obviously YMMV depending on what apps/websites/networks you use; I'm using very mainstream apps and sites on mobile, and never connect to public wifi.
