  • That's annoying. Still doesn't work...

  • Anyone interested in a brand new Pixel 2 for £325?
    Sorry for spam.

  • Im trying to root my redmi 4a.

    https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-4a/how-to/root-redmi-4a-t3726735

    Downloaded the files onto pc.

Couldnt see android debugging in the developer menu.

When i open a powershell command box on the pc and type 'adb devices' it said adb not a correct command.

    Help

  • First of all make sure you've got the ADB drivers installed properly. That's often the biggest faff. Try the instructions here https://www.howtogeek.com/125769/how-to-install-and-use-abd-the-android-debug-bridge-utility/ or similar from google.

Second make sure debugging is turned on on the phone. Normally a toggle under "USB debugging" on the developer menu.

Finally, I'm not sure if adb works in Powershell. After you've done Shift & Right-click and Open Powershell window here then when Powershell loads type "cmd" and it will put you into a command prompt instead.

  • Ok thanks

I just tried typing cmd into powershell and repeating the 'adb devices' command and it said 'adb not recognised...'
Ill look at the drivers next.

  • This is too complicated for me.
Im trying to root my redmi 4a. The abd above seems to have issues running, i can't get it to work. Has anyone on here rooted a redmi device that could help me out?
Edit: I think I’ve got my head round it now.

  • Does anyone have a recommendation for some sort of app that can give greater control / sensitivity over volume?

Basically I have a phone set up to play a YouTube video and the sound is a tiny bit loud, but if I turn it down one then it's too quiet.

I could move the phone, but for lots of boring reasons the location is idea at the moment.

    Cheers.

  • I use this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.phascinate.precisevolume&hl=en_GB

It's got a few issues in terms of using the hardware volume buttons but it does the job.

Also the ability to set the volume level for different bluetooth devices is great.

  • Cheers. Will try, although it's only the hardware buttons I need.

  • Does anyone know of/use a calorie tracking app on Android that isn't too privacy invasive in its permissions? Don't want to give location, contacts etc away for the functionality.

  • I don't think MyFitnessPal asks for much

  • My fitness Pal asks for those but still runs perfectly well if you don't allow them.

Obviously you may not trust it in other ways.

  • Cheers both. Seems to be the most recommended out there in any case. Will give it a go.

  • If anyone is interested I just came across Waistline which is open source and stores all data locally. Looks to suit my limited requirements while being great in terms of privacy.

  • Spoiler blockers.
I've got one on Chrome desktop.
Is there an android one that won't rob me?

  • Is there a huawei charger/ cable that anyone would recommend? I'd like to get another couple so I've got some spares around. Its USB c but seems to charge my phone very, very quick from the plug. USB from PC not so fast.

Secondly what are peoples thoughts on VSCO for Android? I had the paid for on iPhone (I can link my camera to my phone) and thought it was fantastic but is the android version similar?

  • Is there a huawei charger/ cable that anyone would recommend? I'd like to get another couple so I've got some spares around. Its USB 3 but seems to charge my phone very, very quick from the plug. USB from PC not so fast.

    Which phone?
If fairly recent then I'm assuming USB-C and it's fast charging you're after.
So something like an Anker Atom
    https://www.anker.com/deals/powerport_atom

The USB from your PC likely wont supply enough power to fast charge.

  • Sorry I meant to say USB C rather than 3.- Mondays...

I guess I could use the same fast charger I've got at the moment and just buy separate cables?

  • MFP with permissions denied.

  • Looks like Pixel 3a might be announced early next month. Hopefully it's not eye-watering-ly expensive for what it is

  • I would guess around the £300-400 mark.

I'm probably at that stage where I feel like I need to get more out of my Pixel 3

  • I've got £38 of Google Play Store credit doing nothing, what can I spend it on? Audio books? Normal books (but apparently I can't read them on a Kindle, is that accurate?)

Feels like a waste of money buying films/music when I'm happy to get all that through Spotify/Netflix/etc

  • Yeah, you can't read them on Kindle, but I found the reader was pleasant enough to use on the phone. Certainly worth a try with one to see if you get on with it :)

  • Trivial question: what app do people recommend for making instagram images with coloured text?

  • Is there a way to stop certain websites showing up with news stories when I open a new tab in Chrome on Android? I've told Google News to hide them as sources but it doesn't seem to affect the new tab page so I still get absolute shite from the Express showing up there.
