Managed to port over the Google Camera to my Xiaomi Mi A1 which has made a vast improve to my photos over the stock Xiaomi camera.

Having swapped my O2 SIM for a Virgin one and done nothing else the battery life on my 2 yo Moto G seems to have doubled #tinfoilhat

Something that really kills the battery is hunting for the network. If the O2 kept dropping out that may explain it.

• #19505
Also I think if it has spotty 4g coverage that can do it too as its constantly swapping back and forth

So er borked SD card. Disk digger can't really find anything. Any other options before I format and try to get everything off this phone into it? Before new phone day today or tmrw?

Xiaomi Redmi 4a worth a punt?
-
• #19511
I have Redmi 4x for the price it's a great phone only let down by the camera but for that price think I got for £115 4gb ram 64gb memory. Also my version didn't have 4g but still really like. In Fact I've since bought another two Xiaomi phones, the Mi A1 and just waiting for my Mi Mix2

Just installed File Stream or whatever it is that's supposed to take over from the Google Drive I know and love.
What do I do with Google Drive? Presumably File Stream takes over straight away and I don't need to do anything like delete duplicates? Got to say it's not very clear which for teh gerrgles is surprising. -
• #19513
Or it's super clear/easy and I'm just stupid which is also possible.
-
• #19514
Isn't that for G suite users only?
-
• #19515
Yep. Je suis g-suite.
Bizniz and all that.
Another something that's bugging me about it is that it seems to only run almost like a plugged in drive, so an ejectable icon appears on my/other users desktop/s. That seems stupid or, again, I'm not doing it right.

• #19516
Just checked and we don't use it we just have google drive which is using the back and up sync thingy. Probably doesn't help you.
-
• #19517
No worries. Thing is I, as the admin, received an email this morning saying Google Drive is being phased out in May and they're switching to this. Not sure if that hits Back up & Sync too?
Anyway. Think I'm figuring it out - but not quite as intuitive as I'd hoped.

^ de facto admin. So obvs not using IT best practice by actually understanding a product first and instead just installing it, risking losing our entire body of work : )
-
• #19519
I think Backup&Sync is the other replacement for google drive.

Through work I was given a brand new Sony L1 to test, which apparently nobody wants back.
Is there anything useful I can do with it (apart from use it as a phone)? There's some talk it may be unable to connect to the internet...

Just got a redmi 4a through the post.
What are my best options for
Securing the phone
Limiting the amount of data collected on me
Keeping it as minimal as possible.I’ve rad a few things about not using a google account , rooting etc but I’m confused.

Just smashed my 5x screen. Any recommendations for repair places that aren't £100?
