I want to convert a simple line drawing that is in PDF format to a DXF so I can cut it out on a laser cutter. Is it just a case of amending the file extension? Or will the laser cutter not like that? (I'm remote from the laser right now so cant just try it)

run it through illustrator, or I work in archicad and then its two mouse clicks.

If you still need to know......
I've just checked the door lock in my back passage and you should be able to jiggle and thrust and get your outside key to push the inside key back enough to work the lock from the outside.
All double entendres entirely intentional. -

Will I be able to use new Altus shifters with a marginally retro Deore LX rear mech and an STX front mech?
They're both indexed and it's all shimano, what can go wrong, right? -

Send me the file, should be able to sort right away :)

there's a few online converters
They can be a bit of a shitshow, mostly seems to be DXF that's the troublemaker. Something which renders OK in some viewers turns to a mess of random lines in the CAM software on your laser.

Anyone know of somewhere to get chainring bolts the diameter for Thun cranks & rings? (stupid little proprietary size!)
Failing this, then if I drill out to standard size, will I die?
(Guessing the correct answer is probably bin them and get new cranks)

Where can I get 3/8”, 24tpi flanged nuts for a wheel axle? One for @mdcc_tester perhaps

But a door should be toughened or laminated glass, so a longer lead time to make the DGU and more expensive than a simillar sized window.

Too late, he's already rushing home to kick the windows in.

3/8”, 24tpi flanged nuts for a wheel axle
You don't need flanged nuts, plain nuts plus washers will be better if you can't find track nuts with captive washers. If you haven't already checked with a thread gauge, do so before buying, 3/8" axles can be 24TPI or 26TPI.

my 3/8" 26 TPI nuts don't thread on more than 1 cm.
Do you mean 1cm? That would be all the way through the thread of the nut.
3/8"x24 UNF is widely available in many forms and materials if that's what you really need, it's not strictly identical to 3/8"x24 BSC but it's close enough given the wide tolerances on industrial fasteners, and anybody using 24TPI axles is probably using UNF rolling dies anyway, whether they know it or not. -

You know, I was thinking "was it a centimetre or was it less?" but couldn't really remember. Either way they thread on a decent way but not far enough.
I just bought some 3/8" UNF. It's a CB-E110. Sheldon also says 24TPI if I'm reading this right https://www.sheldonbrown.com/sutherland/CB-IGH-2-intro.pdf

Ornithologists - what kind of bird is this and should I expect to be seeing it on a school field?

Yeah, that's what I meant. January, new house, emergency locksmith phoned. Wasn't impressed when I phoned up 30 minutes later to explain that we'd managed to regain access to our house and his services were no longer required.
